Jennifer, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment (time and money) I’ve made has been in my own leadership development though lifelong learning. My growth as a leader has happened through both formal and informal ways. In graduate school I studied organizational leadership. This provided various frameworks and methodologies that have given structure to my understanding of leadership characteristics and approaches. More informally, I believe that every person, encounter, lesson, season has the ability to teach you somthing if you’re open to learning. This openness has generated expansive curiosity and the deep desire to glean perspectives and knowledge from others. Regardless of what I’ve done professionally or the industry I’ve been in, the investment in growing as a leader has been deeply impactful and rewarding. Evidence of this has come by way of the relationships I’ve established with others, success as an entrepreneur, and positive outcomes an executive and business leader. Informed by these lessons, I recently co-authored Mission Matters v. 10 where I discussed the power of authentic leadership. Today, one of the things I enjoy most is mentoring others and imparting my experiences growing as a leader. Early in my career I penned a leadership credo. To this day, it serves as a powerful reminder that grounds me and inspired me to continue to learn and grow. Leadership isn’t about a job or title, in my opinion it’s the commitment to learning and growing ways to healthily lead yourself and inspire others.

Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Living and leading by example, my career has been forged through my greatest passions – inspiring others to embrace their journey, live their truth, and thrive authentically while promoting a unified vision for more equitable and inclusive communities. I approach differences with curiosity and humility seeking to understand how others experience life, foster a sense of belonging, and celebrate differences. I have traveled the globe visiting six continents and almost 50 countries. I’m an internationally sought-after presenter and well-respected DEI thought leader with experience captivating and educating global audiences of all sizes. I work with leaders and organizations to create and maintain cultures and experiences of inclusion and beloging. As a equity and inclusion strategist, I work with stakeholders to evolve policies, practices, and procedures to consider diversity and address inequities. I’m a huge proponent of modeling authenticity. I believe that I am my unique value proposition, and this is displayed through vulnerability and humility. I’m most proud of who I am and the lasting impact I’ve left on others- personifying one of my favorite quotes, “be the change you wish to see in the world”. I have a strong devotion to fulfilling my highest purpose in life, which is positively impacting the lives of others while living and leading authentically.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Driven by purpose, passion, and persistence- I lead with integrity and service. My openness to share knowedge and heightened emotional intelligence has also aided in building a strong reputation.
