Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Hurvitz . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
My best advice to my clients is to NOT wait to date after a divorce or a breakup. And yes, I know this is not the “norm,” and it’s a bit controversial, but let me explain.
Most dating coaches believe waiting a certain amount of time to heal and be the perfect version of yourself to get back out after a divorce is imperative. I’m afraid I have to disagree.
Are we ever the “perfect version” of ourselves? Rhetorical.
I know I still need to improve the perfect version at fifty! And I hope I never am. I strive to be perfectly imperfect, and I plan on learning, growing, and evolving every day for the rest of my life; and finding a partner who does the same alongside me.
My clients are so relieved when I tell them they don’t need to wait months or years to “heal” or “be perfect” to start dating again; it makes my heart full.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m known for my no-nonsense approach to dating during midlife and relationships, and I am proud to say I’ve made quite the career out of pretty disastrous circumstances, my DIVORCE! With three best-selling books, an award-winning podcast, and a thriving coaching practice, I’ve designed a resource to support anyone: Whether you’re single, frustrated with online dating, hoping to find love again after divorce, or choosing a relationship with YOURSELF…I’ve got you covered!
Being a divorced-single mom, that’s a no-brainer! My kids are watching. I can’t (and I won’t) give up. It’s crucial to show resiliency and perseverance and how I can stand on my own two feet. Quitting is not an option when younger eyes are observing.
The esteem I’ve gained from my children, hearing them talk to their friends about what I do, they are so proud of me. My most outstanding achievement was having the respect of my two boys. It is my greatest accomplishment as a business owner. I’ve come full circle.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020, during the pandemic, I was feeling burned out, recording my podcast, Doing Divorce Right. I was divorced for almost seven years then, and the podcast was moving into its 4th season. I was ready to hang up my microphone and was no longer interested in discussing divorce; it was exhausting. The space was pessimistic; the topic brought me down, and I needed a change. Being in a healthy four-year relationship, the negativity stemming from the conversations on the show was depressing and caused so much angst in my personal life.
It was time to pivot into positivity.
I took a month off from the show, rebranded my podcast (and business), and brought in the New Year 2021 with Doing Relationships Right, which was an overwhelming success! I felt rejuvenated with a new logo, branding photos, content, and attitude, and my followers LOVED what I was putting into the world.
There is nothing wrong with a POSITIVE PIVOT– I highly recommend it to all my clients and colleagues.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a divorced-single mom, that’s a no-brainer! My kids are watching. I can’t (and I won’t) give up. I must show resiliency and perseverance, and I learned to stand on my own two feet. Quitting is not an option when younger eyes are observing. My youngest son (19) recently got a tattoo of the word “resilience” in Hebrew on his chest over his heart. I think I did something right.
