We recently connected with Jennifer Heidrich and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I have always been interested in the beauty industry. In 2014, I decided to learn how to spray tan and opened my own sunless tanning business, Bronze by Design. I enjoyed a sunless tan and wanted to help people feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. Little did I know that this initial endeavor would pave the way for an even greater opportunity. I started the business out of my car with mobile services, and throughout the next few years I moved into an office and brought on teeth whitening and other wellness services, including light therapy. Once we brought these on, I noticed my clients were very interested in non-invasive treatments that could help them achieve their goals. This sparked a curiosity within me and led me to explore holistic beauty solutions. In 2022, I took a leap of faith and expanded my business to include a medical spa side, introducing groundbreaking treatments like the Emsella and EmSculpt NEO.
This expansion required significant investment and extensive research. When I came across the Emsella and EmSculpt NEO devices, I knew they would make a great addition to the business. These devices help our clients achieve body sculpting and muscle toning. While I knew this expansion was a risk, I saw a genuine need for these treatments, and my personal interest in them further fueled my determination. Our grand opening of the new devices was met with a sense of excitement and anticipation. However, there were moments of uncertainty and doubt. Expanding into the medical spa realm meant stepping into unknown territory, both financially and professionally. But I knew that growth comes with risks, and I never want to look back and think “what if.”



Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Our reputation within the market has been built on a combination of factors that have contributed to our success. First and foremost, our commitment to delivering exceptional results and providing top-notch customer service has played a crucial role in establishing our reputation.
One significant factor that helped bolster our reputation is the opportunity to spray tan for the Dancing with the Stars Tour from ABC. Being entrusted with such a high-profile event allowed me to showcase my expertise and demonstrate our ability to deliver flawless and natural-looking spray tans to the pros and celebrities who are in the spotlight. This experience not only enhanced our credibility but also provided a valuable endorsement that resonated with our clients and the local community. I am forever grateful to South Seas Tanning, the sunless tanning sponsor for the show and tour for referring and trusting us for many years.



Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
From the beginning we have found that word of mouth has been the most effective strategy for growing our clientele. We believe that the best advertisement is a satisfied customer sharing their positive experience with others. By providing exceptional services and personalized care, we have been fortunate to have our clients refer their friends and family to us, which has contributed significantly to our growth. We currently have 1000+ 5 star reviews! We are also proud to share that Bronze by Design was recently voted bronze for “Best of Columbia” under customer service in a local magazine!
