We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Grinke . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the early days of establishing your own firm. What can you share?
Starting our law firm was an opportunity for my partner, Dana Stewart, and I to create something we could be proud of. It gave us the opportunity to establish a healthy work life balance for ourselves and our future employees. First, we established a business plan and created a brand that we felt encompassed our beliefs and the way we wanted to conduct business with our clients. Next, we gathered the best team of professionals and employees to help us carry out our vision. This step was crucial for us, we wanted to make sure whomever we hired believed in our mission and would set our business up for success. This included financial experts, assistants, graphic designers, attorneys, and many other professionals that were going to assist us in carrying out our dream.
The challenges we faced in starting our own law firm were small and wide, but nothing was harder than changing our mindset. We had to train ourselves to transition our headspace from attorneys to business owners. This is an ongoing learning experience for us. We not only had to become business minded, but we also had to continue practicing law while facing the unknown world of COVID 19.
The one thing I would have done differently would’ve been to start my own law firm sooner. Advice I have for those wanting to start their own firm; don’t be afraid. Have the confidence within yourself, come up with a plan, and stick to it. You can do anything you put your mind to.
Jennifer , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jennifer L. Grinke, and I am a Family Law Attorney in the DFW area. Ever since I was young, I had my heart set on becoming an Attorney and helping others when they are helpless to themselves. I have two beautiful little girls who inspire me every day and push me to be the best version of myself. I attended undergrad school in California at the University of Santa Clara and then attended Gonzaga University for law school. The reason I love the field I am in, is because you are giving a voice to the voiceless and fighting for the greater good of your client’s needs.
When you can help someone fight for their freedom, a loved one, or even peace, you are helping others see the light at the end of the tunnel. We help our clients with divorce, prenups, adoptions, and custody issues. We aide our clients during an often very difficult time in their lives. What sets us apart from other firms, is the fact that we are a boutique firm that focuses solely on the area of family law. We want to understand what our clients’ needs are and make sure we are addressing every aspect of their concerns. We assess each situation with the mindset of “Advocacy with Empathy”. We understand that each case is unique. Our firm is one that will treat you with the kindness and respect that you deserve while fighting for what is most important to you.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner in 2015 at the law firm we used to work at. We were coworkers and always respected the way one another practiced law. We also had similar practice styles and work ethic. We both are very determined at what we put our minds to and don’t back down from a fight. I knew we would be excellent business partners and create a healthy and respectful work environment.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When it comes to running a business, your employees are the core structure that hold everything together and carry on your brand image. I believe that what you invest in your team is what you get out. It is important to me to take the time to listen and understand what my employees need and what helps them thrive in their work environment. I try to make myself easily accessible and approachable to my team and keep the lines of communication open.
