We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
One of my Veteran recipients wrote this about me on Veterans Day.and it drives me every day for all of our veterans who need. Service dog to change their lives..
“ There are some who speak about gratitude for a veteran, and then there are those that do. Jennifer Green and Alpha Bravo Canine have been a transformative experience. When no one else was able to help me, there was one voice in the wilderness that stayed true to her promise to me and my service dog Charlie. To me that fulfills that request God told us about today as well: “Dear children, let us not love with our words or speech, but with actions and with truth”.
I celebrate a woman today who has poured her heart, soul, finances, time, blood, sweat, and tears into her own ministry: caring for those who have served our United States Military. She doesn’t just say: “thank you for your service”. She walks it out every day, giving of herself to help people like me.
Jen made this day possible for me years ago when she accepted me into the Service Dog program. Now, several years later, one 11/11 veterans day. I am here, in large part, because without Service Dog Charlie, I know I would not be alive. He is my closest companion, my best friend. And he never left me nor forsake me. “
Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I founded a non profit organization called Alpha Bravo Canine. I am also the Director of Training. Our mission is to raise, train and donate service dogs to disabled veterans living with PTSD, TBI and combat related disabilities.
I founded my organization out of need within my own community as well as a way of giving back to those who have selflessly served our country. We have volunteer puppy raisers who become part of our training team. They come to class each week, practice everything they learned out in the real world and they build our dog’s skills prior to being matched with a veteran. There is no financial burden put on any of our Puppy raising families because the most important part to me is their time.
We are a small organization and every veteran who is accepted into our program becomes a life long family member with life long support. I think that’s a big draw with our veterans and the organization is being a part of the family. The majority of we train service dogs for is PTSD related symptoms. Some of veterans prior to being matched with a dog were isolated and not being a part of their own community due to their dibilitating effects of their disability.. Those same veterans have now gone to school, travel, developed new relationships and participating in their own life which has transferred into being a part of their own community again with the aid of their service dog.
My proudest moment is when I see a veteran partnering up with a life changing service dog living their life to the fullest, being present in their life and happy.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Succeeding in a career of service dog training is passion for what you do. It’s a long process and takes approximately two years and approximately $25k per dog. Everyone on our volunteer team shares the passion of giving back to our veterans.
We are a part of the dog’s journey to get them ready for their veteran’s new beginning.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I were to go back in time I would have chosen this as my first career. I would do this over and over again. I have never felt more joy in my life than giving back to people. It’s changed my life
