We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Gilbert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving my corporate Marketing Director job to go out on my own was a huge risk. In September of 2019, I launched my marketing agency, REMIO Group, with a whole lot of hope and determination. We had two toddlers at the time, but I was determined that I could do this and make my dream come true. And I did! I used my professional working relationships & contacts to ask for referrals, and started letting everyone know that I was ready and taking on clients!
Despite the pandemic starting 7 months after launching the business, REMIO Group tripled in size in that timeframe. How? Well, my knowledge and expertise in marketing, relationships, and business owners going all-in with their marketing efforts. The business continues to grow year over year and I am SO proud of how far I have come.
The goal was to make marketing accessible to any business size, and we have done just that. From large corporations needing consulting, to small women-owned businesses looking for strategy, we are here to help make a difference and provide massive results.
Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelors in Marketing and a minor in PR. I immediately moved to California, the land of career opportunity. Throughout college I had dreams of coordinating promotions for Broadway shows, but I ended up on the other coast and began working in luxury real estate. Over the course of 15 years, I worked with some of the biggest names in real estate and settlement services companies creating beautiful visuals, 200-page magazines, event coordinating, copy writing, and providing marketing services for individual agents and teams.
Marketing is not a one man show, and it takes a village of experts to create an effective campaign and promotion. I learned in my time in corporate, that larger marketing agencies were very costly and far from hands-on. And smaller agencies simply didn’t have the bandwidth. So, I set out to create my own agency.
I compiled some of my best consultants that I worked with throughout the years to create a full-service team who can support small businesses as well as large.
Due to my experience, we have many real estate agents, teams, and brokerages, who have followed me and continue to work with me. We also provide marketing services to other business sectors. The biggest impact we have found lately is supporting small women owned businesses and helping them achieve massive growth in a very unsettling economic time. This is so rewarding, as there is no one more determined than a woman entrepreneur.
We provide a wide range of services from marketing strategy, website development, copywriting, email campaigns, social media management, graphic design, and so much more.
My clients say all the time, “Everyone needs a Jen.” And I happen to believe that to be true :)
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Doing good work and aligning with the right people. I wholeheartedly believe in providing only the BEST for clients. And I won’t take on a project or client that I don’t believe in or that I don’t think I can help. This allows our business to grow. Like attracts like and the referrals keep on coming!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I am absolutely a growth-minded book junkie. I am highly motivated by people’s stories, lessons, achievements, and tips. A few of my favorite books are:
Building A Storybrand
Think And Grow Rich
Atomic Habits
Everything is Figureoutable
And anything Brene Brown
