We recently connected with Jennifer Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
One thing my parents did right was tell me to always do what I loved BUT they did not say “and you’ll never work a day in your life.” They said I would work regardless of the journey. But using my god given talent was a must! I always had instilled in my mind that I would have to work hard but make the hard work work with it! Baking is something I love, something I enjoy. It is of course hard work but I enjoy it and I enjoy when I reach a new level of creativity.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jennifer Garcia and I am from Southern California. My small business is called Del Diezmo. I make cupcakes, cake pops, oreos, cakes, desserts you name it! I got into the baking scene not with the intention at first. Baking was and is something I just enjoy doing and I like learning new things. As I progressed my family encouraged me to share my work with others and see where it would take me. This small business has allowed me to work with all different kind of people from all walks of life. I have enjoyed seeing there different perspectives and styles. This has been a big teaching point for me, in trying to help my clients find exactly what they are looking for. Everyone has a different style and different likings so it is important for me, if it is necessary, to even sit down and plan exactly detail by detail what they desire. What makes me the proudest about my small business is that sense of accomplishment of I am done with a cake and when my client sees it for the first time and they are absolutely just in awe.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly the best source of new clients would be your family and close circle of friends. Networking is everything and starting off with those closest to you will bring in people from areas that are relatively close to your business. Do not get discouraged if your close group is small, once the word of mouth branches out from each of your friends and family, it kind of becomes like a vine, it all becomes connected and correlates back to you.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I am truly honored and blessed to have such great and loyal customers. They always look for me through my social media of course like Facebook and Instagram. Those clients I give high priority to because they have supported me since day one. This is what I like and what touches my heart. They have gotten to see me and my creations evolve throughout the years. However, it is not only about me, it is about them as well. I have had the honor of seeing them grow and evolve as well. One example would be of this lovely couple I met a few years back. I remember seeing them as boyfriend and girlfriend, then engaged, married, expecting, having their first child, and now they’re expecting their second. There is nothing more beautiful or more rewarding than getting to establish these kinds of relationships with clients and I am all here for it.
