We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Ettinger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer , appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
For many years, I was a social media correspondent on the red carpet in Los Angeles. I was part of a team and grateful for my “seat at the table.” I did not try to be a leader in our group. I was perfectly content and overjoyed with gratitude for the opportunity.
A life-changing career offer presented itself in Canada. It would require setting up a registered business, stepping into my leadership power, and taking risks. The shift of “power” upset the dynamics of my inner circle. The harsh and cold reality was that I would need to break away and go forward on my own. I kept hearing the voices of the “naysayers” in my mind, who wanted me to fail. I was terrified, yet I knew in my heart that I would be okay. I started building a new team and took a deep dive into learning new skills. I poured myself into my work with intention and passion.
Years later, I look back and give thanks for the life lesson. Although the loss of my colleagues and friends was excruciating, and it took a long time to grieve their absence, if things had remained “status quo,” I most likely would not be the founder of a successful Social PR Agency today.

Jennifer , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Over the past decade, I have served as a social media correspondent, forging a path for a new generation of social journalists, blurring the lines between media correspondent, publicist, and influencer to establish a holistic practice of social storytelling.
I am a proud American-Canadian, Social PR growth hacker, leading strategist, global community cultivator, and brand builder. I value authenticity and leading with a holistic approach when working with the myriad of celebrities, events, and corporate brands whose profiles I have served and amplified across my Pink Dreams social channels.
I have had the honor of interviewing celebrities and acting as a social media correspondent during award season, including at the Oscars for Vanity Fair’s Social Club, Entertainment Tonight, CTV, Insider, and Access Hollywood.
I have hosted hundreds of interviews, launches, and watch parties across mainstream media and social media channels. This includes for The Social, Amazing Race Canada, Jann Arden, Patricia Arquette, Jon Favreau, Scott Borchetta, Boy George, Norman Jewsion, Chrissy Metz, Russell Peters, Nikki Sixx, eTalk at the Oscars, Marilyn Denis, Sarah McLaughlin, and Fergie.
In 2016, I founded Pink Dreams Inc., a creative agency that connects people, brands, and organizations through the power of Holistic Social PR. We believe in helping our clients build an impactful community and establish a loyal audience through successful Social PR* strategy and execution. Our holistic approach is based on authenticity, clear brand communication, and relationship-building.
What is Holistic Leadership and Holistic PR? A Holistic Approach addresses the entire person, including physical, mental, and emotional health. Holistic PR is based on the principles of Holistic Leadership, which is defined by five principles: inspiration, awareness, balance, transparency, and ethics. We integrate the principles of Holistic Leadership and the attributes of Holistic Well-Being (body, mind, and spirit) into your strategic planning and content curation. Well-thought-out holistic marketing strategies promote a shared purpose for every activity and personal interaction with and without your business. Holistic PR sees all dialogue between an organization or business and its public, customers, audience, and clients as a two-way process of appreciation and engagement. We call it Social Synergy.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my social channels one community member at a time, organically and authentically.
There is so much pressure to present oneself as successful and perfectly curated on social media. Many people have the unrealistic mindset that to have a presence, you must have a large follower count. This ideology couldn’t be further from the truth! Take the pressure off your shoulders to succumb to purchasing followers. The only winner in this situation is the company “selling” to you.
When we work with creators on behalf of our clients, we first look at their followers to audit their authenticity. If one has purchased followers, we are unable to invite you to join many opportunities, as they have what we call False Reach. Even if you were told that the followers are “targeted people in your industry,” it isn’t authentic.
I advise leading your account from the place of service:
Who you Are
What you Do
How you Serve
Followed by engagement (don’t post and ghost :)) and passion. True community and social reach is GOLDEN. Let your unique self shine.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
We lead with a genuine desire to assist our clients in reaching their definition of success. Their passion is our passion. Transparency is critical. We take pride in our niche approach and will communicate if an element is out of our scope of services.
