Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Esteves. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I decided to make the move and become a solo esthetician during the covid lockdowns. The spa I had worked at closed down. I was at home for months and decided I needed to go on my own. I was very lucky to have a majority of the things I needed to open my own space. I had a lot of time to think about the vibe I wanted Cada Skin to be and in November 2021 I opened my studio. I everything I learned and made it my own. I highly recommended working for someone for a few years to gain experience before going on your own. Touch as many faces you can, educate yourself. Be confident in your work and in yourself. As a small business owner you are it! The marketing, the talent, the cleaning, everything.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started off my Beauty career as a hair stylist. I knew since I was little girl cutting my Barbie’s hair and making my own clothes for them that I was meant to do something creative. As I got more into the Makeup industry, I realized how many people wanted to cover up their skin. I decided at the age 36 to go back to school and become an Esthetician. It was the best decision I made because I truly love helping people with their skin and feel good about themselves. I always encourage clients to take time for you. I wanted to take the guesswork out of trying to decide a certain type of service. I do what’s best for you during your visit with me based on what I see your skin needs. You will not get the exact same service every time because you don’t have the same skin every time or the same stress. That’s what sets me apart from other places. I treat the skin with an Holistic approach along with some clinical treatments. I want people to feel like they can come to my studio and take a time out at life. Listen to some relaxing music in my comfy heated bed and let my hands do the work. I am a busy Mom of 2 daughters and I know how special it is to take time for yourself. I have so much gratitude for everyone that comes into my studio.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
To succeed in this field you definitely have to be a people person. You need to listen and understand what people’s needs are. Make everyone feel comfortable when they come to you. I believe the power of human touch is an amazing skill to have. Set the vibe, make your space inviting and let your healing hands do their thing.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I wouldn’t change anything. Every job has taught me how to work with people and different personalities to prepare me for where I am today. It’s never too late to do something you love.
