We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Duncan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
At the time, I had a two- and three-year-old, and we were just emerging from the pandemic. As a stay-at-home mom, finding local places where my kids could safely and happily participate was often an anxiety-driven process. I realized how helpful it would be to have a resource that highlighted local play spaces and family-friendly activities. Creating CedarParkMomVlog became a way to lower that stress—not just for me but for other families as well. It’s been such a joy to showcase these wonderful local businesses while giving parents confidence about whether an activity or location is the right fit for their children.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom with two little ones just 13 months apart, navigating the challenges of parenting during a pandemic. I realized I needed something for my own mental health—a creative outlet to connect with other adults and build a sense of community. Before starting CedarParkMomVlog, I was already creating UGC-style video content for brands in the Amazon Influencer space, so I had experience crafting engaging videos, writing strong hooks, and delivering clear calls to action. Combining these skills with my passion for sharing local, family-friendly activities naturally led me to build this vibrant and supportive community.
What sets CedarParkMomVlog apart is my focus on helping North Austin and surrounding area families find fun, age-appropriate, and inclusive experiences. I love showcasing local businesses and being a trusted resource for parents looking to make meaningful memories with their kids. My goal for the future is to continue growing, reaching more families, and spotlighting everything our community has to offer.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I started building my audience on social media, I already had a background in understanding platform algorithms and creating engaging videos that resonate with people. This knowledge gave me a strong foundation, but the key was consistency. For the first three to six months, I committed to posting two to three times a day. Before launching my content, I had spent nearly a year recording and gathering footage of local places to ensure I had plenty of material to share.
By consistently showcasing what the Cedar Park and North Austin area had to offer, my account began gaining traction. I started CedarParkMomVlog in April 2024 with just 41 followers, and by the end of December 2024, I had grown it to a thriving community of over 13,000.
My advice for anyone trying to grow their social media presence is to focus on creating engaging, valuable content, post consistently, and actively interact with your audience. Reply to comments, use Instagram’s interactive stickers in Stories, and stay committed to building a genuine connection with your community. Growth takes time, but with dedication, your efforts will pay off!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to connect with local families and businesses while showcasing everything our area has to offer. The greater Austin area is packed with so much to explore and enjoy, and being able to share that with families in a meaningful way is incredibly fulfilling. It’s all about building a community and helping others discover the amazing experiences right in their own backyard!
