We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Du Bois a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I created Organized by Jen D with the mission to create beautifully organized and styled homes for overwhelmed woman. I believe that our homes should be our sanctuary and organizing it is a form of self-care.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a Professional Organizer and Interior Stylist serving overwhelmed women in Southern California. I was born in St. Croix United States Virgin Islands and moved to San Diego in the early 90’s. I’ve lived in San Diego ever since except for a brief period when we lived on the the East Coast.
I worked in healthcare for over 20 years before starting Organized by Jen D. After so many years in the healthcare industry, I began to notice a trend, folks were burned out and it showed up in their attitudes at and towards work. I recognized the burnout because I had been there. I knew what it felt like to have poor self-care habits and what taking on more than a person should handle could do to their mental well-being.
I knew I had to help women practice a form of self-care that did not go away when the scented candle burnt out or when the last bit of bubble bath water went down the drain. It had to be sustainable but nothing I initially thought about resonated with me. It was only after I embarked on a long period of reflection, soul searching, and listening that the idea to start OJD came to me. Everything about it just felt right. OJD allows me to combine my love for all things related to managing and beautifying a home and my passion for supporting others to realize positive life changes.
To date, I have helped over 28 women create beautifully organized spaces through my in-person and virtual offers.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I recently challenged myself to launch a service offering that I had been thinking about for a while. I knew that I was stuck in a state of “wanting it to be perfect” that was causing analysis paralysis. So, I started telling people about it before I had a formulated marketing strategy. The pressure of folks knowing about it and the amount of interest the offer was getting was enough to motivate me to go full force. I tweaked and improved my marketing along the way and it worked!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think my reputation comes from my unique approach to organizing and stylings spaces. I also believe folks are drawn to the idea of using their homes as a form of self-care.
The way we style and the organizing systems we use to manage our homes should be personal. No two individuals or families will need or want the exact same thing. I use this understanding as the foundation for my work. I work hard to understand who my client is, what organizational and styling challenges they have been experiencing, and how they want to live in their homes. Then, I create decluttered, organized and beautifully styled spaces they love.
I also share a lot of content surrounding the idea that our homes should be our sanctuary, our retreat, the place we go to get inspired and recharged to face life’s happenings. Folks really resonate with this.
