We recently connected with Jennifer Davila and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My fused glass art is my most meaningful art I work with. My late Aunt Nina used to work with fused glass and I have taken over this craft that was introduced to me. I learned how to do it when she became very ill and couldn’t really teach me other than tell me how things worked. Every time I work with glass I light my candles, say my prayers, and talk to God just like she did. I am very grateful to be able to create witj this medium.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jennifer Davila. I own Con Cariño Mexican Folk Art. I am also an elementary art teacher. I have been creating ever since I was a child. My Aunt Nina was my biggest influence, as she was a great artist herself. I guess for the last three years is when I really dove into my art. I thrived during Covid lockdown and just created and designed the whole time. I have since grown a good following of customers and clientele. I appreciate every one of them.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the smile on my customers faces when they see my work or meet me at my markets. I love the personal connection they make with my work. I love knowing my work is hanging in peoples homes with a purpose.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think in my journey I have become very resilient, focused, and determined to take it as far as I can. I remember my Aunt used to tell me that I had to work at it everyday and be consistent. As an educator, I have had many Summers to work on my art, but I wasn’t as productive and consistent as I am now. Like I mentioned before, that year of Covid lockdown gave me the furl and determination and consistency that I had needed all along.
