We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Campos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I had constructed my life and identity around being a “working woman,” juggling multiple careers that I embraced wholeheartedly. My sense of self was rooted in my talents and commitment. While working at an ad agency where I learned and flourished in various departments, I was also dancing professionally and styling projects for different artists. I was a fusion of all arts. I’ve always been the kind of person who stays active. A typical day involved going to my 9-5 office job, rushing home to shower, preparing a quick salad, and heading off to either a gig, class or rehearsal, which sometimes stretched into the early hours. I was always on the go
Throughout my life, I have consistently held more than one job at a time; it’s how I kept myself occupied. However, when the nationwide lockdown began due to COVID-19, everything changed. For the first time, time seemed to slow down for me. In August, I lost my office job of 12 years, and around the same time, my business partner and I decided to part ways. To top it off, I had just ended a relationship. My life felt like it was crumbling in an instant.
A few days later, I was asked to model for a class presentation by a friend studying aesthetics. Having always had an interest in skincare, I eagerly accepted. I’m incredibly grateful to this friend, who unknowingly unlocked a hidden passion within me. I was captivated by everything I learned during the presentation, prompting me to conduct my own research and pursue my esthetician license. It was as if a light bulb had illuminated my path, bringing about a profound internal shift.
This October 12 marks my third year as a licensed esthetician. When it comes to taking risks, I made a significant career change to acquire a completely new skill in my early 30s. I decided to return to school and explore something fresh. Like any job, I had to work my way up, and the beginning was challenging; I faced a substantial pay cut and long hours to reach my current position. I had to decline many meaningful events and even lost friends along the way, but I have no regrets and am truly happy that I made this leap in my life. But it doesn’t stop there. My passion and curiosity has driven me to learn more about this field. I have recently embarked on a new journey. I have returned to school to pursue my medical license, enabling me to better serve my clients. I will soon earn the credentials of a medical aesthetician nurse, a milestone that I am incredibly excited about and eagerly anticipating.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a holistic licensed esthetician. Shortly after graduating from Paul Mitchell School of Esthetics, I was accepted into a prestigious three-month externship program led by celebrity medical esthetician Brandi J. Andrews. During this time, I gained invaluable experience in a medical setting, working with real clients facing various skin conditions, including acne, hyperpigmentation, alopecia areata, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, rosacea, and vitiligo, among others. This three-month opportunity not only built my confidence but also inspired me to pursue my first solo position as an esthetician, igniting my curiosity about the medical side of the field.
Currently, I am employed at a beautiful luxury spa in Beverly Hills, where I have the pleasure of collaborating with other talented and knowledgeable therapists. I offer a range of facial services, including chemical peels, extractions, hydrofacials, diamond microdermabrasion, high frequency, radio frequency, ultrasonic, microcurrent, LED light therapy, and lymphatic drainage face massage. The dedication I’ve invested and the incredible connections I’ve made throughout this journey have been truly rewarding, providing me with invaluable lessons and guiding me closer to my aspirations. I take pride in the commitments I’ve embraced and look forward to the future version of myself that awaits! I want prospective clients to understand that my treatment room serves as a tranquil sanctuary, devoid of stress and confusion. There is no judgment here; I am dedicated to helping you reach your goals, whether that means enhancing your confidence with a clearer complexion or simply providing comfort to your heart while nurturing your soul.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely! If I had stumbled into this industry earlier, I’m convinced I’d be climbing that career ladder like a pro! Oncology and dermatology had me hooked the moment I first heard about it in school. I would have chased that dream like a kid after ice cream! Haha. But for now, my mission is clear: snagging that medical license is my top priority!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Authenticity. I maintain complete transparency the moment my client steps into my space. This openness, along with building a connection, has fostered trust and resulted in more requests. I genuinely love my work, and it is incredibly fulfilling to see and hear how I’ve assisted my clients in reaching their skincare goals or simply providing them with a chance to unwind.
