Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Bullen . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
Something that warms my heart on a regular basis is when I get to witness a client living in a way that they have not been able to access in a long time! Being able to hear from a client that are feeling things in a new way or that they are getting good rest! I am hearing things like- I am sleeping, taking less medication, I have libido!! Witnessing life changes like leaving toxic situations and overcoming big challenges because they can work with the BIG emotions and sensations they are encountering.
These things warm my heart!!!
When I receive a text that says… hey I tried that hand on the heart thing we talked about and I was able to comfort myself in a way that I never have before. This is a BIG deal!
Jennifer , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My business is all about supporting people on the deepest levels of their bodies! I work with those that are having a difficult time living in their body. This may be those that are feeling numb, disconnected or those that are struggling with stress or overwhelm.
I have a lot of clients that are healing from past and present trauma, eating disorders and body image issues and more.
Living in the present moment and being aware of what is happening within can be a really hard thing when we are not feeling our best. Our body has been with us from our beginning and it has made memories of all our experiences, this creates patterns and responses that show up in our present. I help others find safety and stability within themselves so that they can live more freely in their body.
I support these human experiences through movement like yoga, dance or art. We also connect with the rhythms and cycles of nature to support our systems. On a deeper level I have just added holistic health counseling which has been a beautiful and supportive addition.
Approaching different therapeutic methods outside of talk therapy can feel really scary – what do I do different? I go slow. There are so many wonderful healers available nowadays, but I take my time. I think it the most important to hear what someone’s life is like, How are they being impacted? What is their day to day like? What’s their story?
I’m so very proud of the personalized care I provide for each client in a time when we really need to have our experiences understood.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first began this work I fell into the thinking that healing had to be fast, big and flashy. That having a BIG experience in the body would just release it all! We love the instant fix!!!
I’m now on team slow and steady. I have found through my own bodily experience that those BIG feeling events can leave us feeling maybe on a “high” for the moment, but they have the potential to leave us feeling worse. I love that they can feel memorable and impactful for us, but the old adage that slow and steady wins the race feels more true in this moment.
I’ve been translating this into my work now and have seen amazing results! In my mind it is like creating a pearl necklace, we are stringing one new experience together with another. Piece by piece, new and safe moment by moment makes a beautiful necklace.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth is the biggest honor ever for me! When a client has experienced deep change and it is impacting their life – they can’t help but to share it. It’s a big deal to me when I hear someone say that they heard about me from a friend or even – “I tell all of my friends about you!” I also really enjoy building community through groups and events. This has been a great way to know someone over a long period of time and to witness more of their life.
