We recently connected with Jennifer Buck and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

My parents gave me a solid foundation! I was blessed to have hard working parent’s that taught me grit and perseverance through example! I was blessed to work for them in this Industry that I love, and I learned so much from their example and teachings. I have been so excited to open my own medical spa and now Aesthetic school. The grit I watched is now the example I hope to be for my own children.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I have always had a heart for helping and educating others. After being a Medical assistant and ultrasound tech and instructor specializing in OBGYN for over 20 years, I had the opportunity to change careers and the opportunity to do so could not have come at a better time in my life! I found myself wanting to spend more time with my children but still had a passion for taking care of women. Being a working mom is hard and women don’t always take time to take care of themselves. The Aesthetic Medical Spa industry was fascinating and the opportunity to learn and grow personally while helping others was irresistible. My love for skincare dates back to when I was a teenager. I have always had severe rosacea which lead to many trips to several dermatologists but never yielded any results. It was amazing that while gaining the knowledge of lasers, IPL, skin resurfacing treatments, and skincare I am now able to treat and maintain incredible results. I am capable of reducing not only my rosacea and the occasional minor skin issue, but I am also able to help each one of my patients feel more beautiful and confident through age-defying aesthetic solutions and medical-grade skincare. I take pride in operating within my scope and have always maintained integrity in an industry that can sometimes be labeled as untrustworthy and money hungry. A tremendous amount of time and continued education has provided my team and I with the best resources this industry has to offer to deliver the most amazing results our patients deserve.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?

I believe genuine relationships are what is most helpful in succeeding. I believe that investing time and truly hearing what my client really needs is so very important. I genuinely care about every single person that enters my doors and I think they can feel it. Over 90% of my business is by referral because they are happy to share with their friends not only about the results they receive but the way they feel when they are here.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

When my parents sold the Medical Spa that I worked for, my life was turned upside down. My parents offered my husband and I the opportunity to purchase first however I felt like I was not ready to take on such a large endeavor with small children. So I went into the new ownership with an open mind, despite everyone telling me that most new owners like a fresh start with management. I never listen to other people opinions and this was no different. Unfortunately I wish I had been more prepared for the changes that were in front of me. But I was blindsided and let go. After a few days wallowing in self pity I decided that I would choose grit and continue doing what I love on my terms. So with my amazing husbands support I called Hayley who was excited to help create Luminous Glow Med Spa. I had no idea how much fun it would be creating my own brand. Now we are on to creating a school! Academy of Aesthetics and Laser that will open summer of 2023! It will have small class sizes which I hope will help our students feel more equipped to succeed with personalized instruction by the most passionate skin experts in the field! Turning Lemons into Lemon cake because that is better than lemonade!
