Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Bird. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Executing a thoughtfully crafted creative brief is a cornerstone of my approach. Once a concept is in development—be it for a video or photography campaign—I delve deeply into the story, visual concepts, and comprehensive research. This process typically involves creating a script, mood board, and shot list.
In our visually driven society, it’s essential to draw from diverse sources for visual examples and proof of concepts, as these elements play a crucial role in pre-production materials. In my experience, the most successful concepts emerge from careful planning and meticulous research, coupled with extensive creative collaboration prior to production. This foundation not only enhances execution but also ensures successful video, photography, and social media campaigns.

Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jennifer Marie Bird, and I am an Atlanta-based Director and owner of Bird Mountain Media, a video and photography production company specializing in commercial and documentary filmmaking. We have had the pleasure of partnering with major brands such as Delta Air Lines, Coca-Cola, SONIC, Georgia Pacific Pro, and National Geographic.
Our relationship with Delta is particularly special. We’ve collaborated on over 100 projects, including 55 with myself as the Director. I’m excited to share that my short documentary for Delta’s Amsterdam Pride Festival was featured on their in-flight entertainment system in 2024, reaching 8 million monthly passengers. Additionally, we’ve produced numerous videos for Delta’s main YouTube channel, contributed to their blog the “Delta News Hub”, and created the launch video for their Instagram handle, @lifeatdelta.
With 15 years of industry experience, we know how to make your advertisements stand out in a crowded market. By entrusting us with your visual needs, you’re not just saving time—you’re investing in a seamless and stress-free experience from start to finish. We understand the key steps needed for a successful video, photography, or social media campaign and our diverse experience allows us to bring carefully cultivated insights to each project.
At Bird Mountain Media, we are dedicated to bringing creativity, integrity, and warmth to every project we undertake. We prioritize collaboration, fostering long-term partnerships built on transparency and trust, and the belief that a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses is essential for success.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my husband, business partner, and Director of Photography/Photographer, Luke McMahon, while studying Film and Television at Savannah College of Art and Design. Throughout our time in cinematography, camera, and lighting classes, Luke consistently impressed me with his dedication to honing his craft.
Fast forward 15 years, and we have built a successful career in the commercial and documentary industry. One of the aspects I cherish most about collaborating with Luke is our developed collaboration; having worked on hundreds of projects together, we share an unspoken understanding of each other’s needs on set—we often anticipate requests before they are even voiced.
Luke’s technical and mechanical acumen never ceases to amaze me. He is the backbone of our technical execution at Bird Mountain Media, skillfully crafting and shaping light to create stunning imagery. His expertise in utilizing camera gear to meet the needs of our clients and collaborators is unparalleled. Committed to staying current with evolving technologies, he continually refines his skills, learning from every project.
One client recently remarked, “I love working with you all because you always make me look good on camera.” Luke excels at creating flattering, pleasing lighting and is adept at translating a client’s creative vision into seamless execution. His attentive listening and ability to generate innovative ideas on the spot often surprise and delight our clients, making each collaboration a fun and rewarding experience.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Over the past few years, I’ve had to unlearn the idea that “each year will bring the same challenges.” Instead, I’ve learned that the challenges we face change significantly from year to year.
As each new year begins, we encounter fresh trends in creative requests, such as the rise of social media, shifting budget requirements—where some years clients may have extensive filming needs while others are more reserved—and the release of new equipment, prompting decisions on whether to rent or buy.
A phrase that resonates with me is “new levels, new devils.” The filmmaking and advertising industries often experience fluctuating video production demands. It’s crucial to take advantage of the months when work is in high demand, as well as to make the most of downtime when work is subdued. This can involve updating your portfolio and online presence, creating passion projects that showcase your creative vision and skills, or networking with industry professionals, including potential new clients and collaborators, such as crew and talent.
