We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Benson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Ignescent opened for Flyleaf and that’s when I met Sameer Bhattacharya. I am huge fan of Flyleaf. We ended up co-writing a song together about overcoming battles in our lives. It was an honor co-writing a song with someone I have looked up to. This song will be releasing on our next album.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started singing when I was a teenager on the worship team at church and wrote my first song then. I decided I wanted to start a band that would help and encourage others with our music. I started by booking the band, managing the band, and promoting it on social media on every site I could and it just grew from there. It was my dream to be signed with a label and I submitted Ignescent to Frontiers Records. I was in shock when they responded. We are now on our second album with them that is releasing this summer.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way is to like and share their posts with your friends and buy merch to help financially support them.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. My goal is to help support and encourage others that suffer with anxiety and depression that they are not alone and to encourage them not to give up.
