We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Alba recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer , thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Hi, I do wish I had started my fashion creator account earlier than I had. I had been eyeballing Instagram as a creative platform for quite some time, possibly it was 2010. I would see other influencers creating and telling myself, I need to show my creative side and my style edits. I had this fear of others judging me and not being good enough. I wish I hadn’t let those fears get to me. I wish I would of been brave enough to do it. If I had started sooner, I think I would be further ahead in my influencing career. That means I could have more brand deals, more active followers, more collaborations. Don’t let fear stop you from accomplishing your dreams, let me be the one to say start now.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I am Jennifer Lee, or known as Pricklyblonde. I am a style creator influencer and sign language teacher. I have an obsession with cowgirl boots and western hats but I incorporate that with my urban city street style. Not only do I suggest style tips and daily outfit inspiration, I have a twist which is my teaching of American Sign Language. Come on over to my page and you can learn some positive quotes in ASL and get style tips at the same time. Would love to meet you and get to know you better, my DMs are always open.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect of being a creative would be the creative friends I’ve made along the way. I find that in life we can make many friends along the way. When I tapped into my creative side and found ways to showcase my love of style and fashion with social media, I realized that I could make a whole new group of friends that were like-minded with me. Which is a breeze of fresh air. Having someone to lean on that has your same struggles, excitements, creative flows, and more.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
One struggle that I’ve noticed with my non-creative friends would be that they think I’m just taking a pretty picture. They don’t understand the creative process behind creating a photo or reel. It’s a form of art that comes through with style. It’s deeper than just a pretty picture. What’s worked for me is explaining to them the process and creativity behind the photo. Letting them ask the questions so I can explain with details to help them to see my visions come to life.
