We recently connected with Jennie Wang and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennie, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To me, success isn’t just about one aspect of life, like making a lot of money or having a prestigious job. It’s a holistic concept that involves balancing different areas—physical health, strong relationships, a sense of fulfillment, and contributing positively to the world. Success is about achieving well-being across the board—enjoying good health, nurturing meaningful relationships with family, friends, and coworkers, making a difference in society, and, of course, being financially secure.
I believe there are two key ingredients to success. First, hard work. You have to put in the effort to prepare yourself for the opportunities that come your way. No matter how skilled or talented you are, without hard work, those skills may never fully develop. The second is recognizing and seizing those opportunities. They don’t always knock twice, and sometimes you need to go out and find them. Success is a mix of preparation, perseverance, and being proactive when those moments of opportunity arise.
It’s about building the life you envision and continually growing in all areas—not just in one lane.
Jennie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve loved drawing for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was about 7 years old, while other kids were playing or studying, I was always immersed in drawing and watching anime. For a while, I dreamed of becoming a manga artist in high school, but I soon realized how unstable that career path could be—overworked, underpaid, and often without the security I was looking for. So, I chose a field where I could still channel my creativity: graphic design.
Funny story, though—before I found my way into design, my journey was quite winding! I initially started out in civil engineering, switched to actuarial science, and then finally found my passion in graphic design during my sophomore year of college. Growing up with Asian parents, there was definitely pressure to choose a more traditional, STEM-related path. But when I found design, it felt like the perfect blend of creativity and practicality. In my final year of college, I took a UX Bootcamp, did a few personal projects, and discovered that UX was a way to solve real-world problems while also embracing my love for design. Right after graduation, I landed a role as an Associate Visual Designer, and I’ve been doing what I love ever since.
As for my work, I mainly provide visual solutions for clients, which include designing ads, brochures, flyers, and other creative assets. I’m particularly proud that my creativity allows me to support others, helping businesses and people bring their visions to life while making things more fun and visually engaging. I love that design gives me the opportunity to constantly grow, experiment, and make an impact. Moving forward, I hope to keep pushing the boundaries of creativity and create even more fun, innovative experiences through my work.
In short, I’m passionate about using design to solve problems and make life a little more exciting, and I’m excited to continue creating meaningful, enjoyable work that connects with people on a deeper level.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to bring ideas to life and make a meaningful impact through design. There’s something truly magical about starting with a blank canvas and transforming it into something that resonates with people—whether it’s a visual that tells a story, solves a problem, or simply brings joy. I love that design has the power to influence how people experience the world, even in small ways.
It’s also incredibly fulfilling to know that my creativity can help others achieve their goals, whether that’s by enhancing a brand, conveying a message more effectively, or improving the usability of a product. Seeing my work create real value, and knowing that it made a difference, is what keeps me passionate about what I do.
In the end, it’s all about creating something that didn’t exist before—something that can evoke emotions, inspire action, or just make someone’s day a little brighter. That sense of purpose and connection is what I find most rewarding.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The driving force behind my creative journey is the excitement of endless possibilities and the opportunities that come with each project. I love the fact that with creativity, there’s always something new to explore, learn, or experiment with. My goal is to enjoy the process as much as the outcome—to embrace the challenges and discoveries that come along the way. Whether it’s pushing the boundaries of my own skills, finding innovative solutions, or creating something that resonates with people, I’m motivated by the idea that every step in my creative journey opens up new doors and perspectives.
