We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennie Huynh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennie below.
Jennie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
Working in the nail industry, we know that not everyone may be fluent in speaking English, so we make it a priority to provide training and resources for our staff to improve their skills. We think it’s important to find younger generations to join our team and not depend on just the ‘older mindset’ to be creative and bring only expertise to the workplace. Our staff comes from many different backgrounds and we have a mix of Spanish, Vietnamese, and English speakers, many of which immigrated from different countries. Our salon truly cares about the inclusivity and acceptance of all individuals, including the LGBTQIA+ community. At Peacock Nails, the only color that matters is the color of your nail polish.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started as a nail technician, and over time, I decided to go to dental school and become a dental hygienist. I liked the work, but I still felt like something was missing. I missed being creative. That’s when I met Tina, who I worked previously for, and then decided to become co-owners of Peacock Nails with her. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to be a partner.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Our marketing team has done an amazing job in promoting our brand and services, which has helped open doors to new clients. Building real relationships with our customers and showing exemplary customer service has been important, with many of our clients spreading the word about their positive experiences through word of mouth. We are constantly updating the interior of our store throughout the year which helps to improve the overall experience for our clients.
Any advice for managing a team?
My advice for managing a team is to prioritize consistent communication, so regularly check-in with your team members. It also means clear and open communication with clients, so they feel informed and included in the process. We establish clear communication with the customers prior to starting the service, this helps to bridge the communication gap and make sure the client’s expectations are met.
