We recently connected with Jenni Morris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenni, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Mortgage Lending has a reputation for being a transactional, sometimes stressful process of selling debt, and I don’t believe in that concept. Buying a home is a step towards financial abundance, for family stability, for building wealth, and it is a journey, not a transaction! I’ve been relationship and service focused since I was a young child, and that is what I bring into lending that many of my clients say is different. Getting a loan from start to finish is the easy part- what I focus on is truly listening to each individual’s goals and dreams so I can help them create a plan for not only now, but also the future. That can be anything from creating a budgeting plan, how best to file taxes, what monthly payment will be best, which loan product fits, when is wise to refinance, and how to gain the most equity so you can buy investment properties. And to know the answers to all those, I have to get to know each client well, which is my favorite part of my job!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Throughout my life, I have been an industry of service. It started as a client liaison for a Chamber of Commerce, a tour guide, a wellness retreat leader, a yoga teacher, a stress relief Coach for professional women, and then finally as a mortgage lender. When people are thinking about buying a house, it can be overwhelming. For example, it can be daunting if you’re a first time homebuyer because you don’t know the process, which decision is the right now, and it is a big financial commitment. If you are buying a bigger house, doing a refinance or investing, you are worried about making the best choice, utilizing your money wisely, and timing everything correctly. When you feel like you are ‘guessing’ what is right, it doesn’t lead to a great experience. But when you are fully informed, then you can make an educated decision, and that certainty is what creates a stress-free time buying a home. That’s why I focus on education, getting to know my clients well, and focusing on communicating a clear plan so that each person I work with feels 100% confident that the mortgage path they choose is the right one, at the right time. I specialize in VA, FHA and Conventional Loans, and work with clients for years to help them build the most successful real estate portfolio, and abundant life from it!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Community means everything to me, and there are important reasons why. In our society, we often feel separate, lone wolves, with a “I can do it all on my own” mentality. However… it doesn’t work. We thrive when we come together to support each other. At the end of the day, we all have areas that we excel in, and areas we struggle in, and when we come together to support and learn from one another, we all thrive. My focus on community has been from the intention of creating spaces for people to have support, build connections, grow and thrive. Come with your hands full to give, and life will show you abundance. I run several networking groups, mom’s groups, and this focus on serving others has led to my reputation in my community as someone trustworthy who shows up. I have gotten to the closing table with every loan I have started, and have built strong relationships with realtors through teamwork during the contract process. Clients know that I am honest and upfront, so they know what they see is what they get, and there will never be any surprises. That confidence in consistency is what I’ve strived to uphold.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Authenticity. Don’t try to serve everyone- you’ll end up serving no-one. When you are authentically you, you will attract those clients and partners who resonate with you. You’ll have more fun working with those people anyways! I have built a social media presence by 3 things: Being authentic, being consistent, and utilizing video. Don’t make it all about business, show the why behind what you do. There’s a million people out there who do the same job you do, but nobody does it quite like you do. Be consistent- show value to your social media community by not constantly asking for business, but instead giving advice, entertainment, encouragement. Use video- people connect more through video than text. It elicits emotions, it lets people see your personality, it builds more trust. Using Live videos can be nerve-racking at first, but they reach more people than anything, so do them!
