We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jenni Doucet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jenni, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I’ve always had a dream to help, love, and heal people as much as humanly possible. I decided in undergrad that athletes were my passion, and I obtained my bachelor’s in athletic training and Masters in Exercises Physiology. I became an Athletic Trainer working with athletes from age 5 to professional and it was my dream job- at the time! I had bought a house, bought a new car, I was close to my hometown, everything was great…. until it wasn’t. In 2018, my uncle Greg was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer and his health was at a steady decline. I decided that I was going to find ways to help him get better and stay better, he had way too much life left to live. In January of 2019, I decided to go back to school and become a Chiropractor to help him find more natural ways for pain management and so much more. Almost a year before graduation, my uncle unfortunately passed away from his illness. He was my biggest fan, forever cheering me on and trying all my crazy approaches to help him stay comfortable for longer. His loss affected me more than I could’ve ever imagined.
After graduation, I took a job as an associate chiropractor. The next 8 months were miserable, I hated my job, and I knew I was destined to help people so much more! April 2023, I quit my job and decided to go on my own by doing mobile Chiropractic! By June 2023, I opened my own practice by the name Bayou City Chiropractic. If you went on a tour of my office, you’d find multiple different alligators- both big and small placed throughout every room. While I am from Louisiana, the alligator in my logo and my office has a totally different meaning. My uncle, Master Guns Greg Bishop was a large part of the amphibious division of the Marine Corps and their logo was also an alligator. When he retired from the service, he named his property in Northern Washington “The Lazy Gator Ranch” and when I opened my office, I stole the gator idea and ran with it in remembrance of him. Everywhere I look throughout the day I am reminded that I always have a guardian angel looking down and helping me run my business! Within the first few weeks of opening, I was greeted with a new patient who was a Marine Corps veteran, named Greg, and had pale skin & red hair just like my uncle. It was that day that I knew I did something right and I was on the right track! Every day, whether it’s the gators around the office or the patients I’m blessed with, I know my uncle is with me every step of the way and cheering me on from Heaven!
The biggest lesson I’ve learn from this adventure of opening my own place is TAKE THE LEAP! Even when it’s scary and things are uncertain, take the leap and appreciate it every step of the way. My first month in practice I didn’t see 10 patients in a month, now I’m currently sitting here with 10 people on my schedule just today! It’s scary, but it’s so very worth it!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m very different from a lot of other Chiropractors! I focus on a full body approach, instead of just adjusting and sending you out the door! I offer everything from cupping, scraping, and dry needling down to even custom orthotics. I knew from early on that if I could offer quality, but affordable chiropractic care that I could change the industry and give people the healthcare they deserve at a price point they could afford. I also like patients to feel like they’re friends and family instead of just a price tag who pays my bills. I want to know about your kids, your dogs, the vacations you went on, and how work has been. I truly believe that putting that personal touch makes people want to come back for more and take control of their health.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Getting involved in local networking groups and getting to know people in the community has helped me tremendously with growing my clientele. I’ll be honest, I don’t do a ton of marketing because I’m quite frankly pretty terrible at it, so I work off of a lot of word of mouth referrals usually! It’s very frequent for me to see an entire family and extended family of patients because they get treated by me then end up telling people how much they enjoy their care!

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would choose my profession ten times over if I could! I may have skipped getting my masters degree before going back to school for Chiropractic, but I still would have chosen chiropractic in a heartbeat. I get to watch people feel better and get relief without the use of opioids and surgery everyday and it’s truly amazing to see. It’s crazy to think how I can help people with just my hands!
