Alright, Jenne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When my cat got out in 1996, it took me several months to find her. I received a lot of advice that didn’t work and made no sense. Over time, I realized that almost all lost pet advice is based on dog behavior, not cat behavior. All the things people tell you to do to get your cat back doesn’t work for about half the cats out there. So I put together a method that works for every single lost cat in the world. Even if we can’t get them all home safely, we can figure out what happened to them so the owners have closure.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Almost everyone has heard of Mindhunters or Criminal Minds. Those are tv shows about how the FBI uses behavioral psychology to profile, locate, and capture criminals. I’ve developed a methodology to profile, locate, and recover lost cats. It also works when it comes to behavioral correction, and for matching the right cat with a new family, introductions with other animals, and for in enrichment. If we understand each cat as a unique individual, we can help meet their needs and give them their best lives.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I want everyone in the world to be able to find their lost cats. The mission: no lost cat left behind! In order to support the mission, I’ve recently introduced a line of spicy cat merch, with all proceeds going towards the mission. It’s scary to pivot, and this is completely new territory.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It took me three months to recover my lost cat. Everyone, my family, my friends, my neighbors, and even my vet told me to give up, that she was gone, and that there was nothing I could do. I kept looking.
It’s not easy having a vision that no one else can see except you. The whole world is eager to tell you all the ways you can fail, or that something won’t work. I wouldn’t have rescued my cat if I had listened to any of that. And I wouldn’t have helped more than 1300 lost cats worldwide get home safely either!
