We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenna Rose & Elle Stone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenna Rose & below.
Jenna & Elle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
We wanted a name that encompassed the passion we have for raising the industry standard for the artist experience in making a living off of music, and for building a community around that music. We wanted something that not only represented our local scene, but that also had the potential to grow beyond it.
We settled on Music City Movement because we are building a Movement, and because any city can be a music city if the scene has an opportunity to thrive.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How we got into the industry: Elle: I met Jenna in the newly emerging rock scene of Nashville. We both shared similar interests in music. When we realized that we both had the same vision for how the industry should be ran, it was clear we had to team up and create MCM. Definitely embodying the mantra “Be the change you wish to see.”
Jenna: I had been working in the industry for several years before moving to Nashville, and met Elle almost immediately upon arrival. We complimented one another’s strengths and counteracted each other’s weaknesses in a way that really catapulted our shared vision of empowering independent musicians in Nashville and beyond. We were both heavily involved in the scene so with a lot of encouragement from our community, we officially joined forces formed Music City Movement.
Both:
Aside from the community we cultivate, which is a tool of its own we offer the ability to help artists elevate their craft by providing a communal space to connect, support, learn, and thrive.
In addition to what we do with MCM, Jenna is an Artist Coach and Program Manager with AGD’s Zero to 60 artist development program and Elle is the Events and Marketing Manager at Soundspace, an affordable rehearsal space for musicians.
From a business standpoint, what sets us apart is our authenticity. We truly love music and want to see our community thrive and succeed. That very attitude is a key component of our business model. Our motto is “For the love of it” – and that’s why we do it. We want everyone working so hard to create authentically can make a living doing so. We want to provide as much support and opportunity as we can to those who show up and participate.
Our biggest accomplishment as a business so far is the community we’ve created. Not only amongst performers, but creators of all kinds. We are also very proud of the direction Music City Movement has taken and how far it’s come. We have a very bright future ahead and we’re looking forward to it!
What are the main things we want potential followers to know about our brand?
That we are dedicated to being a positive change in the music industry. That we want, not only to empower artists, but to help them empower themselves. It takes a village, and everyone needs to do their part to ensure the community
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We’ve been showing up for, supporting, and advocating for the artists in our community from day one. The best way to build success for yourself in this industry is to build authentic relationships and support your peers. Living by that sentiment has been the backbone of everything we’ve achieved with Music City Movement.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When it comes to social media, we gained a following very authentically. We never paid for followers, held contests, or made attempts to get them. They were all gained through events and building the community we speak about. Most that follow us are a creators of some kind who has either came to an event or worked with one of us individually. If we could offer any advice to others starting out their account, it would be, if you can – to build many of those connections in real life. It’s better to have a couple thousand loyal followers who show up for you, then ten thousand bots.
