We recently connected with Jenna Neumann and have shared our conversation below.
Jenna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
Being in the solar industry for the last 5 years, I have noticed that residential solar has been given a bad reputation. Unfortunately, a lot of companies have misled consumers about the true costs of installing solar panels, provide poor craftsmanship, and have left homeowners with higher utility costs. Consumers feel there is no way out since they have signed into a contract that leaves little possibility of recourse.
These deceptive tactics have given residential solar a bad name and iVee League Solar decided to join the solar market to help change this stigma.
We want more than anything, for our customers to feel as though they have made the best choice when signing with iVee League Solar. We encourage our customers to get multiple quotes, do their research, and speak with previous customers to understand their journeys. Every solar customer is going to have a bit of a different process depending on their city and HOA but we want to create a smooth process so our customer feels taken care of because to us, they are more than just a number.
Jenna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My story is a bit unconventional. I grew up in small town Wisconsin with dreams of becoming a middle school teacher and coaching high school basketball. When I graduated college, I stayed in the teaching industry for seven years until I felt I was destined for something different. I ended up getting out of the education industry and took a job in Texas for a solar company. I started learning the ins and outs of solar and took any and every solar course that came into my inbox. Months later, I was promoted to General Manager of the company, managing fifty employees and three locations.
About four years into my position, I decided I wanted to make the move back to Arizona, and my former CFO, now business partner, Christopher Yau, approached me about the idea to start our own solar company. After months of planning and strategizing, iVee League Solar was born. With our combined passion, knowledge, and expertise in the solar industry, it only made sense for us to continue our solar journey in the sunny state of beautiful Arizona.
Being a newer company to the Arizona solar market hasn’t been easy. We have come across competitors that have been in this space for a long time but we also understand what we bring to the table in this market. iVee League Solar is proud of the fact that we make customers feel heard. We listen to their needs, concerns, struggles and build them a solar system that is best for their family’s needs. We want customers to be in a healthy relationship with our company for the next 25 years+ and we pride ourselves on customer service, engagement, and getting the job done right.
Any advice for managing a team?
My staff is the backbone of my business. As a leader, I am constantly encouraging positive work culture that breeds productivity.
I would encourage you to communicate often and clearly. Schedule one-on-one meetings to track progress and clear up confusion but also make sure you are giving staff the time to work alone or with their colleagues. Share company announcements and check in with your employees frequently to boost staff morale.
My advice to future managers and business owners is that it pays to keep your employees happy. Happy employees will work harder and produce higher quality work.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building company reputation is just as important as company morale. Our number one goal with our staff members, customers, and potential customers is to exhibit transparency. Being truthful and honest improves a business’s reputation and there is no company benefit in concealing information from employees or customers.
We also strive to keep our promises. Always follow through on commitments and timelines and over communicate with your customers so there are no surprises for them. Both your reputation and credibility grows when you fulfill commitments and become known as a trustworthy company.
Last but not least, find solutions to problems. We are in an industry where problems arise daily and it’s important as a company that you anticipate an issue and develop ideas for solutions with your team. Always maintain calmness when communicating issues and solutions with your customers and continue to be problem solvers.
