We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenna Morse. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenna below.
Jenna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
I started my first internship for school/becoming a therapist a little over a year ago. I remember being so nervous and worried that I was going to be horrible. I have anxiety and issues with public speaking sometimes so it felt intimidating to do group therapy. It was difficult at first but eventually it felt so natural to me. Over a year later, I have seen a ripple affect in my life. I am able to openly share much more comfortably and feel more confident.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Currently, I am a reiki practitioner (level 3). I do not currently have any regular outside clients due to my busy schedule. I am in school full time and work close to full time at an outpatient treatment center for those recovering from substance use addictions. My focus is on my masters degree in social work so I can get my associates license as a therapist in about a year. I focus specifically on holistic treatment for my clients. In individual and group sessions, I teach coping skills for anxiety, depression, stress, etc. I teach about emotional freedom technique or “tapping”. I also teach holistic nutrition and explain how our food choices influence our mental health.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was about 25/26, I was going through a difficult time. I had recently gotten sober and became very isolated because I lost most of the friends I partied with. I started thinking more critically about what I wanted to do. I was waiting tables at the time but I knew that wasn’t what I wanted to do long term. I was going through some other personal issues that were weighing heavy on my heart. I had suicidal thoughts for the first time in years and I knew something had to shift. I knew I had to do something that was going to shift my focus. Helping others has always been so rewarding for me so I chose to go back to school and become a therapist.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love self-help books. I highly recommend Gabrielle Bernstein…The Universe Has Your Back, Happy Days and Super Attractor. I also love Abraham hicks. Any books written by Esther and Jerry hicks. Ask and it is given and money and the law of attraction are my favorites. I also love books like: The body keeps score and it didn’t start with us because they dive into generational trauma.
