We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenna Michele . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenna below.
Jenna, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Yes, I wish I started this when I lived at home and did not have as many bills. I think I would be much further along by now. I wish that I had been provided the knowledge that being artist was even an option. Growing up, (for me) being an artist as a job was some ridiculous fantasy. I had such little knowledge of just how many career options there are for creatives. I think had I been born later in life and grew up with smart phones it would have been more realistic to me but smart phones/YouTube did not exist until I was already out of school.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jenna Michele. I have been an artist my entire life. I started with painting at 4yrs old then started photography at 9yrs old which I did until 2019. In 2021 I quit my job and decided to go to school for ceramics. I started selling my ceramics while still in my 1st semester in college. I make everything from cups, mugs, bowls and plates to vases with faces, planters, pots, paint cups and sculptural work.
I think the only thing that sets me apart from most is my drive and my determination. I have wanted to be a fulltime artist my entire life and nothing is going to stop me from creating and having my work displayed in galleries.
The thing I want potential customers/followers to know is that I make everything with good intention. I LOVE throwing and creating and I think, or I hope that is shown in my craftsmanship.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew ceramics was a thing. The only art class offered at my highschool were the basics; drawing and watercolor. They did not inform me of other creative outlets I could pursue. My counselor also did not inform me of ceramic/glass blowing/jewlery making classes either. It was, ” go to college and do you General Ed courses or go to Beauty School. Not one single person informed me that I could play with clay and since I am not a scholastic person I attended Toni&Guy Hairdressing Academy in Santa Monica. Which was a waste of time. I do not do hair (except mine) I do not wish to do hair and I have that school loan for no reason. I believe had I been able to start ceramics earlier that my quality of life would have been soo different. Ceramics is so incredibly grounding, a stress reliever and a natural medicine for depression. Had I been introduced to it at a younger age I would not be playing catch up on all the knowledge there is to ceramics.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Network. Network, network, network, network. I built my following by networking. I did pop ups every weekend for a year gaining an average of 100 followers a month by networking and making content they want to see. I try to post everyday and make videos of me creating my pieces because everyone loves a little asmr. You can also pay for ads but in my opinion the real work is getting out there and selling yourself and your brand!
