We were lucky to catch up with Jenna Lockett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jenna , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At HSD we’ve implemented a three part mission statement. The part that touches me especially is the last line of the statement that reads, “Embodiment of Passion & Compassion to man kind.” Not only is it what the world needs more of but I feel it conveys me as a person. By nature, I’m an inquisitive, loving, and empathetic person. I’ve always been moved to be helpful and serve others. I like to pamper others and I like to be pampered. At Heaven Sent we’re passionate about creating custom, soft spaces that our clients can enjoy with their family and friends for years to come. In addition we’re compassionate and committed to our family, our supporters, fellow veterans and military families. That is reason I started this journey in 2017.
As a veteran and military wife, I moved to different cities, states and countries, I’ve been mobile for over 15 years now. One of the things that I found excitement in for each move was decorating my new apartment, townhouse, or house. With every new layout, came a new challenge on how to fit my furniture and utilize the pieces I currently had from the last move. These challenges quickly became “no-brainers” and the designs were evolving every time. So much so, that family and friends asked me to help with theirs. Then neighbors and co-workers, gym buddies, etc. When I officially made my hobby a business, my clientele changed, but I wanted my heart and gift to serve to stay the same. I want to to continue to offer affordable yet quality products and services to hard working professionals like myself , something that everyone can benefit from.

Jenna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an Interior Designer living in San Diego California. Originally, from New Jersey, I’ve always loved to travel and explore new cultures, foods, and places. Since a young girl, my Grandmother shared with me her love for interior design and fine arts. I remember as a child being inquisitive, resourceful, and creative, “Making something out of nothing”. At 18, I joined the military and San Diego was my first duty station. After four years of traveling overseas, My Husbands job transferred us to Japan. We lived there for three years and traveled throughout Asia and visited Tokyo, Indonesia, Thailand, China, and Guam. During my time in Bali, I truly fell in love with Balinese art, textiles, and the luxury of indoor/outdoor living. I continued buying art pieces and other decorative motifs while living abroad and this Balinese style has since been a sentiment of my design style. A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a passion for design led to the formation of Heaven Sent Design & Decor in 2017.
I specialize in residential and commercial interior design. I’m most proud of my ability to create a different space for each individual and the ability to visualize a space before I even begin my design process. If you ever get a chance to look at the vision boards I create and the after product of the room, you’ll understand what I mean. I’m known for creating stylish living and work environments with a cultural twist. I love luxe spaces, rich paints, soft textures, wood elements, rich metals, and utilizing splashes of color in my designs. I am an art fanatic and I absolutely love urban and African art. After designing here in San Diego for two years I was chosen to compete in a Design competition for a furniture retailer and won first place. This was a highlight for me because it showed me the reach and network potential of Heaven Sent Design & Decor. Living in different countries, states, and cities, my exposure to different cultures and people allows me to connect on a deeper level with each individual client. I’m usually able to relate to their lifestyle through an experience that I’ve had personally. After I’m done designing their home or business, I hear them say things like “Jenna just “gets me”!” or “She knew exactly what I wanted and needed”. My gift as an interior designer is my attention to detail and my ability to curate a space that speaks to my client’s hearts and makes their life that much better.
This year my promise to myself is authenticity and continued education and growth. Before 2022, I was still figuring everything out, now I’ve moved out the way to allow God to truly use me. I have so much to offer the world and myself. I’m happy and excited for what’s to come…
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In business there will always come a time where you’ll have to pivot. In 2020, a few month before Covid I felt like I hit a wall. Business was booming, clients were calling, but I felt like I was drowning on the inside, I was tired and not physically. I was overworking, not sleeping enough, not eating enough, etc…. blah. Looking back, I think “empathetic me”, felt the doom of what was to come in 2020. Before Covid, I was doing everything by myself for my business, and it wore me down after a few years. With the grace of God, I have a very helpful assistant to assist me with my business needs, financial professionals on my team and a supportive Husband that has my back. I’m so thankful for my team and my family, they’re a crucial factor to my success.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I founded and funded my business by myself, the old fashioned way of saving. Thankfully, I didn’t need much to get started, just a large vehicle and the open mind and confidence to create. I’d take a portion of my profit from every project, and put it towards business expenses, software, and merchandise. I didn’t begin building my business credit until my third or forth year of business. If I could change one thing,I would’ve hired my financial advisor earlier in business. My financial advisor has helped me to make wiser decisions with my money and money making decisions. They will also help with selecting the correct entity for your business, assist with payroll decisions, savings, retirement accounts, etc. They were proud of the way I “bootstrapped” it to keep everything afloat, but educated me to a better way of doing things.
