Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenna Grey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jenna , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Being a destination wedding photographer that takes pictures predominantly in natural landscapes all over the world, taking risks to capture some of my clients most cherished moments in wild and uninhabited locations, is part of my everyday work. Whether it is flying in a helicopter to untamed back-country locations or hiking into secluded waterfall, my clients trust in me, allows me to photographically capture and document them in some of the most beautiful landscapes and environments on the globe. I am also locally and purposefully based in the Canadian Rocky Mountains of Canmore, Alberta, where some of the most iconic backdrops in Canada can be experienced right at my doorstep, so shooting my local weddings and elopements is quite literally on top of mountain peaks with glaciers, beside the majestic waters of Lake Louise or hiking through Moraine Lake. My clients travel from all over the world to take in the beauty of my backyard and how blessed am I to be able to photograph them here.
I 100% make sure that my clients are prepared for anything, by creating an in-depth itinerary and timeline of our experience together, whether their wedding is located internationally in Iceland, or in my backyard of Banff, we have to be prepared for anything and I love to be organized! Drastically changing weather conditions or chasing a once in a lifetime photo opportunities is a daily occurrence on a shoot with me, as if that rainbow should appear in the distance or a beam of light is steaming through the dense alpine forest – we will be chasing it!
Jenna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been creative and visual artist for over 15 years. I was a director for a back-country helicopter company, and worked for Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy as an executive in luxury. Being a female who photographs predominantly in the outdoors in dramatic landscapes I feel sets me a part from the norm. I provide tailored wedding and elopement photography packages for my clients all of the world and choose to be in wild locations outdoors with my clients. I travel to any destination to shoot weddings and portraits and I love to travel. I have shot in Iceland, Italy, Yosemite National Park, Alaska, California and so on, or my clientele comes directly to me because I am locally based in the heart of the Canadian Rockies in Canmore, Alberta and Banff, Canada.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me personally, is having the ability to freeze an important and heartfelt moment in time for my clients and give them that memory in photographs, that will last forever. There is a feeling as a creative and an emotional person, that resonates so deeply with me, when you can be a small part of another persons most important life event and give them something that will be so special to them and for their family to be able relive it, for years to come. I love being able to freeze time for people. It feels eternal.
