We recently connected with Jenna Frederick and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jenna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you think about spending on the little things / small joys when finances are tight?
I think most of us enjoy spending money when we can, it’s a stress release. However those of us who have experienced periods of financial hardship understands how begrudgingly it can be to spend the little that you have. The decision on to spend on not to spend during lean times all goes back to one major question. Is this an investment?
As hard as it can be to spend money during lean times, it’s the investments of time, money, and energy that can help create a path to a better life.
One of corporate America’s favorite stories is Apple starting in a garage, the idea that any of us could grow our ideas like that. But it’s important to remember that company didn’t start with nothing, just little, and it was the investments made that grew apple into what it is today.
Jenna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an entrepreneur and content creator. I started working in this space out of fun and quickly began to realize that investing time and energy into myself online was my ticket out of corporate America and a better life. I started in the industry as a model, now a days I work more behind the scenes including social media strategies for brands and marketing campaigns.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media is one of the most difficult but rewarding things I have done in my time in this field. For a long time I was creating content I thought people would like and it didn’t seem to be growing. That was until one day I really had to sit and think about the things I genuinely enjoy consuming and how my content was different. One of the biggest things I found during this introspection is that I wasn’t always being my authentic self online. Once I committed to showing my life authentically the audience started to grow naturally.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn all of my self conscious thoughts and tendencies to really have the ability to put myself out there in the creator space a grow. I think it’s normal for us to be very self aware and anxious about what we do or say, especially in this post pandemic world. However, the level of anxiety is sometimes the thing that is holding you back from being able to show your true self. So not only was this experience a lesson my my anxiety but it was more importantly the lesson of how I stopped letting anxiety be used as my mask.
