We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenna Boyter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenna below.
Jenna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am in the process of opening a tattoo studio that also has a craft beer bar inside of it. My husband and I have both always worked in the service industry, and have always dreamed of opening our own businesses. It wasn’t until I was looking to open a larger studio that we realized it would be super cool to combine our interests and serve craft beer inside the studio. We are excited to open a studio that has a public space inside of it where people can hangout even if they aren’t getting tattooed. I think it will be very cool for people to feel like they’re apart of the tattoo experience while just sitting and enjoying a beverage with friends. I haven’t seen a place like this before in any of the studios that I have been to or worked in, so we are really excited to see how the two concepts can play into each other.
Jenna , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been interested in tattoos for as long as I can remember. Any time I had to do a report in school I was doing it on tattoos. I spent a lot of time in high school creating a tattoo blog that posted when anyone I knew got a tattoo, along with interviews with local tattoo artists around town. I went to college for fine art and spend the next few years doing graphic design while I searched for an apprenticeship. I started my apprenticeship in St Augustine Beach and spent the next 6 years learning and growing. I am now finally ready to open the studio of my dreams, and can’t wait to sit down with my first client in this new space. Over the years I have learned a lot about what I like in a studio and what I don’t want, picking and choosing the kind of environment that I can be proud of. I am thrilled to share this space with the clients that have been supporting me for years. I couldn’t do any of this without those people.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I think it’s very important to narrow down your audience and really cater to those people. I knew that most of my clients were looking for more delicate and dainty tattoos. My target audience loves good energy, house plants, flowers, self love etc. These are the kinds of things I would share, and I think it really helped grow my following. I also do a lot of charity work that I am proud of, and I feel like my clientele enjoys being able to work with a business that supports the community.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
The best thing I ever did was create an email list where my clients could sign up to get updates on what I am doing. My clients always know when I am traveling, when I am doing a special event etc. I feel like this also creates a cool bond between me and my clients because they are up to date on the important parts of my life and business.
