We were lucky to catch up with Jenna Boehm recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
Currently, I am still running all my social media by myself. It truly is a job all in itself! Understanding the algorithms of social media apps can be overwhelming as they change over time. Trends are so important and knowing exactly what viewers will be interested in is so important. I have taken more time to consider hiring on someone to handle social media as it would allow more time with the creative aspect of my business and more time to spend with clients. This year I am focusing on expanding my presence to draw in more viewers. Some things I have learned from working on social media for many years is it is always changing and letting up for a few days really does impact your numbers. To make it in the world of photographers you have to rely heavily on socials and word of mouth. Going the extra mile creating a few reels or tik toks can truly help out a business.
Jenna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in a town in east Texas showing horses. Cameras have always been around me because of my grandparents and parents constantly taking photos during shows and practices. I learned over the years that photos are a beautiful treasure that lasts a lifetime. In high school, I started shadowing a wonderful photographer out of Madisonville, TX. He was so kind and taught me so much, still to this day I can call him to ask for help and he is so knowledgeable. In college, I needed a way to make extra money and my business just flourished,
I currently focus mainly on weddings, couples, boudoir, and seniors. I am so thankful to have clients who pick me in every season of their lives. I believe that what sets me apart is my drive to capture my clients how they naturally would be, not so focused on traditional poses, but images that feel timeless. I have a few clients I have captured their graduation, engagements, weddings, maternity, and so on. It’s just such a wonderful feeling to get to be a part of these milestones.
For those future clients, I want them to know that I am your third wheel, personal hype lady, and your go-to for all your needs, Heck maybe even a stand-in bridesmaid if I need to! I want my clients to feel beautiful and I want them to love their images.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Honestly word of mouth. The value of my work can be showcased over and over but the word from a previous client goes so far. For example, I offer boudoir photography but I only showcase my work on a private account to respect my current clients and provide a safe space for them to feel sexy and powerful. Because I do not advertise this part of my business as much it makes it so much harder to grow. However, I have a fantastic group of ladies I have worked with who continue to show off their photos to friends bringing in my clients for me. It is so awesome to see all the little connections from those who come to the studio. I have girls from all over Texas visiting! I truly owe it all to my clients!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Stay consistent! Growing your social media takes hard work and consistency. I will admit that sometimes I fall from social media but staying consistent helps so much. I set a goal to post at least once a day and interact with commenters and other accounts which made a huge difference. Creating trendy content will get old fast. Create content that makes you happy or content that you’d want to see. Be yourself and have fun with it!
