We were lucky to catch up with Jenn Lopez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jenn , appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
Never go into business with friends. If you can, do it on your own. And don’t be afraid to go out of your own! For such a long time I held back leaving my job fearful that my clients wouldn’t follow, but they did! And looking back, I wish I would have left the job earlier & went into my suite sooner.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always loved hair & makeup since I was a little girl & knew early on in life that corporate America wasn’t my thing. My brain didn’t work like others. I loved art, coloring, painting. Science & math- not my speciality.
Once I was able to, I went to cosmetology school & then shortly after attended a makeup school where I studied fashion makeup.
From 2017-2022 I worked at a blow dry bar where I would do hair & makeup. I was also going to college part time for nursing. Finally after getting into the nursing program & trying for a year, I decided to leave & go all in on my true passion.
In 2022 quit my job from the blow dry bar & went out on my own. Now I travel all over Florida doing hair & makeup for weddings, events, photoshoots, etc;
I absolutely love being apart of a special moment in someone’s life & making them feel beautiful. I believe in making my clients look & feel like themselves, just better. I’m most known for my natural “soft glam” and beach waves with boho braids.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media! Everything is online these days & in my industry instagram has almost become our portfolio. I get so many of my clients from instagram. They’ll find me through the hashtags I use, dm me, & book me! You NEED to be on instagram, with a public profile, & your niche in your name.
Also, get a website!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Doing what you feel like you should be doing vs what you really want to be doing. I felt like I should be in nursing school, especially all the hard work it took to get in, I felt like if I quit, i was a failure essentially. In reality, I knew in my heart what I was meant to do, what my passion was & what fueled my fire. I left nursing school, pursued my passion & it all worked out & I am so much happier.
