Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenn Giles . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jenn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
All the time! Friends joke with me and talk about me all the time, about how I’m always gone and never home. I believe that a person that works hard, should play even harder. It’s very important to take time to yourself to keep yourself sane, honestly. When you are always working, you’re always drained and don’t have the energy to give to other areas of your life. Taking a vacation for me gives me that recharge that I need. I’m always on the go. Life is way too short not to enjoy it!
Jenn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! My name is Jennifer, but most people call me Jenn. I am the owner of Sassy and Classy Styles as well as The Charcuterie Jenn. I’m originally from St. Louis, MO. I’ve been living in Atlanta now for 3.5 years. I have always had an eye for fashion and style as a little girl, and I will never forget how I found out I could make a career from it and make money. My favorite celeb stylist, Shun Melson, would be on Instagram styling her celeb friends and various others and it was in 2014 that I started following her and realized that I could really have a future in this. I started my business in 2018 and the rest is history. My favorite aspect of being a stylist is closet organization. I love helping people, so it brings me joy to help others get rid of their gently used items and giving to those in need. To me, it’s a win-win situation. Helping others is the core of my business because I love to help others make a statement with their clothes. I always tell people, your outfit speaks even before you say one word.
Fast forward to living in Atlanta, I decided to start my charcuterie business. I enjoy wine and cheese and I saw my talent in making them. I’ve made them for my family and friends and they love them. I just love creating different things. Boards for me aren’t meant to be cheese and meat. You can create anything you want! And that’s what I strive to teach others. Later on in 2023 I plan to host some charcuterie classes to teach others how to make boards. It’s easier than you think!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
For me, I’ve taking business classes. I feel as though it’s always good to learn about things. Even if you may know how to run a business, there could always be a situation you might run into that will leave you speechless or stuck, like you just don’t know where to go. It always helps to speak with those that are already in the game. It helps to also have a mentor. I was very grateful to have a mentor that would work with me and helped me get my first LLC when I was living back in Missouri. It always helps to be around people that are in the same position as you are. You can bounce ideas off of each other and someone may bring up something you’ve never thought of.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Being consistent is key. Having content that people enjoy to engage with, clean pictures and great captions. You don’t want to have content that is boring. You have to learn how to keep people interested and coming back for more. You also have to engage with your followers, and the more you engage, the more the algorithm will be on your side. Social media is like a full time job – you have to make time for it if you plan on being successful or becoming an influencer or making it a full-time thing. For me, also, it’s important to BE YOURSELF. Don’t try to be like anyone else. Create your own lane and stick to it.
