We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jenn Barazon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jenn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
If Covid did not happen, Shareable Boards would have not been born. Which started out as a creative outlet during the pandemic, I didn’t realize I had it in me to create until I put it on the board, literally. In the midst of chaos and unknown, I found something I am truly passionate about. I am grateful to be able to share my craft and a piece of my heart with others through food.
To share the edible joy with others, I was able to create a business model that consisted of renting space from a commercial kitchen, without needing an actual storefront, and providing local doorstep delivery. This has helped keep start-up costs low and support the growing business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m from the San Gabriel Valley, specifically from West Covina. My passion for cheese and charcuterie boards started during the lockdown in May 2020. Since the world and my family was not able to go out, I began making cheese and charcuterie boards for my husband, Anthony, and I to share. I enjoyed creating them so much that I was inspired to create Shareable Boards. I posted my first Instagram post in September 2020, sold my first Shareable Board in October 2020, and the rest was history. Shareable Boards was born out of quarantine and with a purpose to share joy during the pandemic. Shareable Boards quickly grew all while I was working a full-time job remotely as a Marketing Communications Project Manager in the healthcare industry and becoming a first-time mom to our daughter, Hana.
Servicing the San Gabriel Valley, Shareable Boards is a shared cheese and charcuterie experience delivered to your doorstep.
We offer beautifully crafted cheese and charcuterie boxes, boards, and tables made for sharing.
We offer workshop experiences where you can learn the art of creating your own Shareable Board.
As the main creator of each Shareable Board, I put a lot of thought and love into each creation. Even if I use the same ingredients, each creation is inspired by my mood, the vibe of the day, the music I’m listening to, and the season. Each Shareable Board is truly unique.
As each Shareable Board is enjoyed at celebrations, corporate events, and special gatherings, I want people to feel and remember, it’s moments that matter when you’re gathered with your loved ones, stories are told, delicious food is shared, and memories are created at the center of each Shareable Board.
It’s more than cheese and charcuterie, it’s experiences made for sharing.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
About 5 months into Shareable Boards, I received my first corporate client. The order was to fulfill 95 Shareable Boxes and deliver to 95 different locations throughout Los Angeles. In that moment, I was definitely intimidated because this was our first corporate client and largest order.
There was a part of me where I wanted to decline the order because of fear. Instead of letting fear hold me back, I accepted the order. I had no clue where to start, but I just started. I put together a plan, organized a team, coordinated the delivery drivers, and successfully fulfilled this order.
It was challenging, but the most rewarding experience to remember. Because of this opportunity, it has opened so many doors and connections for Shareable Boards.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Shareable Boards was born on Instagram. Which started off as a platform to post my creations, is now a platform to reach my customers. 90% of my customers are from Instagram.
What I think has helped Shareable Boards grow on Instagram is I try to post a variety of photos and stories with personality. Instead of simply posting boards. For example, I see higher engagement on time lapse or behind the scenes reels.
