Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeneen Mejia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jeneen, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Years ago I tried Quesadilla Salvadoreña from a small Hispanic grocery store in Las Vegas and fell in love with the taste. Years later that store closed; I tried so many other different store bought quesadilla (sweet cheese pound bread, however it was always dry and unpleasant to eat. I decided to try and replicate the taste and moisture of it. After many tries, I felt I had it. I had my husband’s family try it since my mother in law is Salvadorean and she said it was the best she’s ever tried. I then began to make it for my mom’s co workers, started my Instagram Quesa_Boss account and the support has been massive.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began offering my Salvadorean Quesadillas to friends and family before I even started my Instagram account. They then began suggesting I opened and Instagram of Facebook account so people could find me and try my product. All mys customer have said my Quesadilla is the most delicious and moist they’ve ever had, even better than Porto’s. I’ve since then started different items to my menu from churro cheesecake, biscoff cheesecake, coffee cakes, pumpkin bread and party desserts. I am so thankful to my customers for trying my desserts and taking a chance on me that first time they tried my Quesadilla. I am so proud of how far I’ve come with my small business; being able to grow it from scratch and reaching so many people has been amazing. I’ve grown so much in the process, I used to be so scared or buttercream and piping, it no longer scares me as much. My quesadilla is my pride and joy, so many of my customers request it to take to family in California, Texas even Mexico!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I began my offering samples to wonderful girls that are in the baking business. I had previously purchased from them and attended their pop ups. They were kind enough to give me a shout out on their professional Instagram accounts and it just picked up from there.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth and great reviews. When someone tastes what you’ve made, reposts you on their story and says “wow this tastes amazing” or “best quesadilla I’ve ever tasted”, I always get new followers from those posts.
