We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jency Hogan . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jency below.
Alright, Jency thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Well, I always thought I wanted to be a broadcast journalist. But in high school, I did a one woman show and traveled around to different churches and events getting paid -performing it. And when I went to my college interview for trying to be a broadcast journalist, they told me because I was dyslexic and really wasn’t that great of a writer. I should possibly pretend to be one through acting. I auditioned for the theater program at the same school and got a scholarship for acting and it was like a lightbulb went off that this was my true calling and what I really loved and enjoyed.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, I would say, I have been on a path of discovery, since I was in college to find what really thrills me as a creative. In my dream is to be a renaissance woman, I have been influenced by all the arts. But what has been my main career path has been acting and I moved LA when I was in my 20s to study acting in I was in a mini Indy projects and learned about the film industry while I was there. I spent most of my 20s there, exploring different techniques of acting and going to different kinds of acting schools and falling more in love with the craft that I knew. When I moved home, I got lots of opportunity to be in film here in Louisiana and then I realized that I was craving to tell my own stories so I started in 2012 producing my first short film called Madelyn Doyle. And some really awesome people got behind me in and I was able to create something really beautiful, and I love the process of producing. This led me to make many more short films over the years, which then led to making features with other people, and then eventually setting out to make our own feature film, called Days of daisy, which is about to release into the marketplace. We are in the midst of the distribution process. And it should be out in the next few months. Be looking for it online. I plan to continue to create content and we are now currently working on our next feature film.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I think a very pivotal moment in my career is when my husband was encouraging me to make my own content. Because I was auditioning for so many prostitutes and roles that I just thought. Oh this is interesting that this is what keeps coming at me. And I wanted to play some kind of hero, heroine or hero in a movie so I had to create it myself, and that is when I broke out and made Madeline ‘s oil. sometimes if you’re not getting what you want, creatively out of what other people offer you, you have to go out and do it yourself and I think having a strong vision for the kind of content that I love made me so excited to get to contribute to the world of filming that way. I mean I would still be waiting for phone calls for a small rolls and Films I think if I had not taken this leap.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Well, I love female driven Projects In Film. That give women lots of opportunities to play Strong characters. Also, I love movies about unsung heroes from history. I do have a vision to create an epic long lasting legacy type show. That would run for 10 or 12 years it’s one of my dreams. . I want to the apart of the Louisiana film industry in a powerful way. Leaving great shows and movies and an a creative school to the state.
