Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenae Newell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jenae, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
Being a cult survivor and a victim of DV and Narcissistic abuse, I came back to a point of self love and found myself. Now I want to help people do the same!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a survivor of a cult, domestic violence, and narcissistic abuse. My journey has been fraught with darkness and pain, but it has also been marked by profound transformation and healing. Emerging from these experiences, I have dedicated myself to helping others reclaim their lives and rediscover their true selves. Today, as a self-development coach, I guide individuals on their journey back to health—mind, body, spirit, and soul.
In addition to my coaching, I offer a range of services and products designed to support holistic well-being. My book, “Lesson Learned,” delves into the insights and wisdom I have gained from my own struggles, serving as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges. I also sell hand-poured candles, each crafted with intention to bring light and positivity into your space. Furthermore, I provide tarot readings and life coaching sessions, helping clients navigate their paths with clarity and purpose.
What I am most proud of is my ability to help others heal from the very traumas I have endured. There is a profound sense of fulfillment in knowing that my experiences, once sources of pain, now serve as a foundation for empowering others. It is through this work that I find my purpose and passion, continually inspired by the resilience and growth of those I have the privilege to support.
My brand is called Sacred Lotus and it focuses on the sacredness that is you while emerging/blossoming into the beautiful flower that you are; remembering that lotuses bloom in the dark and rises out of the mud.
I also am an all around artist. I paint, draw, sing, do make up, and occasional dance. I embody the fullness of me and help encourage those who seek guidance to do the same!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most significant lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that I was unworthy and powerless—a deeply ingrained narrative that took root during my time in a cult. For years, I was subjected to psychological manipulation and control, conditioned to believe that my value was solely determined by the approval of the cult leader. This abusive environment reinforced feelings of inadequacy and helplessness, stripping away my sense of self-worth.
The backstory begins with my immersion in the cult, a place that initially seemed to offer community and purpose. However, it quickly became apparent that this was a facade masking a regime of control and abuse. The leader employed various tactics to break down individual identities, promoting a doctrine that emphasized submission and conformity over personal growth and empowerment. Over time, I internalized these toxic messages, believing that my thoughts, desires, and needs were insignificant.
Breaking free from the cult was only the first step in my journey. The real challenge lay in unlearning the abusive thoughts that had become a part of my psyche. I had to confront the deeply embedded belief that I was not deserving of love, respect, or autonomy. This process was neither quick nor easy, but through therapy, self-reflection, and the support of a loving community, I began to reclaim my self-worth.
Today, as a self-development coach, I draw on these experiences to help others navigate their own paths to healing. I understand firsthand the power of unlearning harmful beliefs and the profound impact it can have on one’s life. My journey from victim to survivor, and now to a guide for others, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of self-love and acceptance.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I believe that the most crucial element for succeeding in the field of self-development coaching is empathy and personal experience. Having walked the path of healing myself, I can deeply understand and connect with my clients’ struggles and triumphs. My history as a survivor of a cult, domestic violence, and narcissistic abuse has provided me with unique insights into the complexities of trauma and recovery.
Empathy allows me to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. It’s about truly listening, validating their experiences, and being present with them in their journey. This emotional connection fosters trust, which is essential for any transformative work to occur.
Moreover, my personal experience enriches my coaching practice. It’s not just about theoretical knowledge; it’s about having lived through the darkness and emerged stronger. I can offer more than just strategies and advice; I can provide hope and inspiration. Clients can see that I’ve been where they are and have made it through, which can be incredibly motivating and empowering for them.
Additionally, authenticity and a genuine passion for helping others are indispensable. Clients can sense when a coach is truly invested in their well-being. This authenticity builds rapport and encourages clients to open up and engage fully in the coaching process.
In my practice, I combine empathy, personal experience, and authenticity with my offerings, including my book “Lesson Learned,” my organic all natural hand poured intention candles, tarot readings, self love intention luxury oils, and life coaching sessions. These elements together create a holistic approach that supports clients in healing and thriving—mind, body, spirit, and soul. The most rewarding part of my work is seeing clients reclaim their power and transform their lives, knowing that my own journey has played a part in their healing. I love to see someone blossom into the person God made them to be again.
