We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jen Robinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jen below.
Jen, appreciate you joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.
If I could go back and offer advice to my past self, I would say that I should have trusted God more in the journey of building my photography business. I spent 13 years in business, and during that time, I sometimes hesitated to take the risks or make the big leaps I needed to, because I doubted myself or feared the unknown. If I had trusted God and put my faith in His provision, I believe I would have moved forward more quickly.
The reality is that the foundation was already there—God had already blessed me with a strong business model, loyal clients, and a passion for what I do. I just needed to trust in that more. I should have believed that my clients would support me, share my work, and help lift me up as I grew. Trusting God’s plan would have allowed me to step out of my comfort zone sooner, and I feel that I could have reached the milestones I wanted to achieve much faster.
Looking back, I realize that I wasn’t alone in this journey, and the hesitation I felt was driven by fear, not faith. By trusting both in God’s provision and in the people He placed in my life—my clients, mentors, and support system—I could have embraced the opportunities that were already right in front of me. I now know that when you lean into your faith and trust the process, you’re often more equipped and prepared than you realize.

Jen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into photography in a bit of a natural and organic way. It all started in college when I took a film course. I was instantly drawn to the creative process of capturing moments and telling stories through images. It was an eye-opening experience, and I realized how much I loved the art of photography.
Then, one Christmas, I received a camera as a gift. That simple gesture opened up a whole new world for me. It wasn’t long before friends and family started asking me to take photos for them, whether it was for special events or just to capture those everyday moments. I loved how much joy those photos brought them, and the idea of helping people preserve memories for a lifetime really resonated with me.
Over time, that hobby turned into a passion, and I realized that photography was more than just taking pictures—it was about preserving precious memories and telling stories through images. It became such a fulfilling part of my life, and the more I practiced, the more I wanted to share those moments with others. That’s how my journey into photography began, and it’s been such a rewarding experience ever since.
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer with a passion for capturing life’s most beautiful stories through both digital and film. I take a natural, candid approach to photography, focusing on authentic moments and the unique beauty of every individual, couple, and family. My goal is to create images that truly reflect the essence of each story, whether it’s the love between two people on their wedding day or the quiet, meaningful moments in everyday life.
What sets me apart is my deep commitment to giving back to the community that has supported me along the way. I believe in pouring my heart into everything I do, not only through my photography but also through my actions. I offer free sessions, pay-what-you-can sessions, and make charitable donations, all in an effort to give back and make photography accessible to everyone. Volunteering and supporting others is at the core of who I am, and it’s a privilege to use my skills to make a positive impact wherever I can.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media audience organically has been a gradual and intentional process. The key for me has been focusing on authenticity and consistency. I made it a priority to share not only my services but also content that resonates with my audience on a deeper level—whether that’s personal stories, behind-the-scenes moments, or tips and insights related to photography.
A big part of growing my audience has been engaging with various groups on social media, whether it’s local community groups, photography forums, or other interest-based groups. I always try to contribute meaningfully to the conversation, share my work in a non-promotional way, and offer advice or inspiration when I can. This organic interaction has helped me connect with potential clients and like-minded individuals who value the content I share.
Consistency in posting has also been crucial. I try to post regularly, whether it’s showcasing recent shoots, sharing client stories, or even just highlighting the beauty of everyday moments. I’ve found that mixing up the content keeps my followers engaged and fosters a sense of connection. I also make it a point to share things beyond just photography—whether it’s something I’m passionate about or things that inspire me. By diversifying the content and keeping it engaging, I’ve built a more loyal and interactive audience that’s genuinely interested in what I do.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my artistry is definitely the loyalty I receive from repeat clients. There’s something incredibly special about being invited back into their lives to capture each new milestone—whether it’s a wedding, the birth of a child, or even just family portraits as their journey unfolds. Being a part of their story and watching them grow over time is truly fulfilling.
What I love most is the trust they place in me to preserve these precious moments, knowing that every photo I take is more than just an image, but a memory they’ll cherish for years to come. Each session feels like a continuation of a story, and that kind of relationship with my clients is what makes this work so meaningful. It’s not just about creating beautiful photos, but about being there to document the changes, the growth, and the joy in their lives. That’s the real reward for me.
