We were lucky to catch up with Jen Lebo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I had been a professional portrait photographer for over 10 years, specializing in high school senior portraits. I loved working with young women, but could not seem to create growth or success in my work. I thought I was missing something in my marketing or in client attraction, so after years of struggle, I got serious, and hired a business coach.
I didn’t realize that she was a mindset and life coach who helped women in business. Heck, I didn’t even know what a life coach was.
Within the first few weeks of working with this coach, I uncovered my greatest obstacle to success. I was out of alignment in my work. I was posing, lighting, and photographing women and young girls to help them highlight their outer beauty, but every part of me was dying to teach them that their worth was built on so much more than their body.
Soon after this discovery, my coach and I pivoted, and I set out to become a life coach myself, specializing in coaching women on body IMAGE.
I hung up my camera soon after, got certified as a coach, and never looked back. I have never been more in alignment with the work I do, and have never had more fun. This work changed my life, and now it’s changing the lives of the women I coach.
I coach women to take control of their body IMAGE so that they can unleash their full worth and go after their dreams.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a certified life and body image coach for women. I help women learn how to take control of their body IMAGE so that they can go out and live their joy and their purpose.
I work mainly with clients on a 1:1 basis, over a period of time that best fits her needs- usually somewhere between 2 and 6 months.
Here’s why body image coaching is so vital.
Women are taught from an early age- from society, from peers, from other women in their lives- that their worth is tied to their appearance, to their bodies. I help women recognize those limiting thoughts and stories, and I teach them how to manage them, how to neutralize them, and how to gain power over them.
And once a woman recognizes the control and power she has over her thoughts, she can put aside the body thoughts that sabotage her, and step into the thoughts, beliefs, and actions that propel her to her goals and dreams.
Women have work to do. We have businesses to create, we have careers to enjoy, we have families and children to love and raise, we have purposes and passions and missions. When we harness the power to manage our body IMAGE, we create time, money, energy and resources (which used to go to hating, abusing, or trying to change our bodies) and use it all to go do that work.
When we change our minds about our bodies, we change our worlds.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I might be cheating here because I want to share a few things that, when combined, have worked together to help me build a clientele and business I love.
The first is self awareness. I am always doing the work to know where my thoughts are around my own body, and how my own journey could be helping my audience or holding me back. I work with my own coach, and do a ton of journal work, which helps me to stay aware of my own mindset and my own body image. I am a student of my own work- a product of my own product.
Second is authenticity. I come my my work honestly, and have learned that my own body image journey is the reason why I am the best coach for my clients. I speak my truth, and I am authentic in my content, in my coaching, and in my life. I believe this allows women to get to know, like, and trust me in a deeper way.
And last, but not least, is consistency. It took me a bit of time (and courage) to step fully into my niche as a body image coach. Now that I am there, I share my message, my content, and my resources consistently. I am doing the work every day to build clarity around what I coach and who I serve. It might sound boring, but it’s one of the biggest keys to my being able to coach the amazing women I coach.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love to read all types of books! And I also am in love with all the podcasts. But above all the great resources out there, the on that has most significantly impacted my management and entrepreneurial philosophy is my own coach. Having someone else inside your mind, your goals, your strategies, and your business in general is such a game changer.
My coach and I meet weekly. She is my accountability, she is my inspiration, she holds belief for me when I am not quite there myself, she challenges me, and she calls me out.
We work through mindset and strategy, thought and action. We talk through launch systems, creating content, building consistent content, making offers, pricing, you name it.
As a solopreneur, this has been the greatest investment and resource I have made to my business.
