We were lucky to catch up with Jen Lawson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jen , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
In the gutter industry I think Corporate America typically bases the success of their company all on sales and not sales and installers. At the end of the day a sales team can sell every appointment they go to but the sale means nothing until the job is installed. Sales and install should definitely work as a team to achieve the common goal of completing the job and making money. Many corporate gutter companies have the sales versus install instead of working together as a team.
Also a lot of corporate gutter companies have a high turnover over rate. It’s exhausting continuously rebuilding a team. If you invest in them they invest in you and your company. Companies spend 3-4 times more money continuously hiring than investing and valuing the employees they currently have.
Those are two things we are the complete opposite of and I feel that helps make up a lot of our success as a company.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the gutter industry in 2019 it fell into my lap and I became very successful at sales and worked my way up the ladder. I soaked in as much knowledge as I could about gutters and gutter guards and scoped out the competition to know every aspect of the market for our field.
One thing I’m so proud of is the company I’m currently at Flowshield Gutter Protection, myself and a large part of our sales staff followed our owners to a start up company and we haven’t missed a beat. We have exceeded our goals in the first year and looking to grow and be better each year.
We specialize in gutter protection. Our product has raised screen technology made out of marine grade stainless steel to where only water goes into the gutter and the customer never had to clean out the inside of their gutters. It keeps home owners off the ladder. (There are over 200,000 ladder related accidents per year. It also protects their outdoor source of plumbing and their home from potential costly repairs.
I’m very proud that we are able to make it affordable to fit in almost any budget and we offer no money down 0% finance with approved credit.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think constantly being out in the field whether it’s sales appointments networking events or interactions with installers helped me build my reputation in the field. As an operations manager you have to be present and know every aspect of the industry and company.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Our sales team and myself are very resilient, we learn from every no and turn it into a yes. You learn so much more from a no and how to overcome that objection in the next appointment and so on. Some of my most satisfying accomplishments is molding a sales rep from zero experience in the industry to a gutter superstar. It’s such a thrill watching them starting out learning the ropes to dominating the market and crushing the competition, with integrity, tact, and grace of course and most importantly just being great! That is our motto at Flowshield and something we strive for daily. #begreat
