We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jen Hoeft. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jen below.
Jen, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Eight years ago, in my yearly astrology reading, I was told that my intuition is a “quiet, in the moment voice that speaks only once… keeping you safe and alive.” I got goose bumps (later understanding that this is my body wisdom hearing truth), and asked her how she knew that? The information/wisdom/download came from my human design chart. I hadn’t heard of this system that was transmitted onto the planet in 1987… and I dug in deep.
My life was already pretty fulfilling. I’m a professional drummer in Nashville, and I’ve been teaching fundamental fitness and yoga for years, but I always played with astrology and the metaphysical, searching for the truth about how to live my best life, and how to help others with theirs.
But my curiosity was in over-drive. I studied, got certified over 4 years and began to embody this new way of understanding my life… it felt right, the kind of thing you reach for when you have free time… big clue to knowing what you love.
I reached for it and it reached back.
The risk came when my body had zero energy for owning a fitness studio. My lease had another year on it, my calendar was full of clients and classes, I was in the black… but I had to practice what I’ve been preaching.
I listened to my body wisdom, attracted a friend to take over the lease, closed my personal training business and hung a HumanDesignWithJen shingle.
I left my uncomfort zone for an inner truth… trusting that the path will appear… and it did. Day by day, as I continue to be invited by my curiosity, the world begins to invite me! I am living what I’m continuing to learn, and the world is asking me to dance!
Jen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I love the truth. Knowing how humanity works, why we are here, how we are designed to co-create our lives. This is my JUICE!
My Mom says that I’ve always been a seeker. I did my 4th grade paper on Carlos Castanadas…:). I love talking to the adults at the sleepovers, listening for wisdom, patterns, clues, happiness.
Music has been my golden thread. Drumming since the age of 10… college, grad school, and professionally in Music City.
It’s been the greatest gift of my life… to master a craft, PLAY with others, serve the world, and absorb the mystery inherent in this art form. Being a musician makes me a listener, a creative, and an empath.
These skills, combined with the hunger for truth, allow me to intuitively see things in a human design chart that can immediately shift someone, soften someone, aha someone.
I love the logical map of the stars, chakras, i ching and kabbalah. And I REALLY love accessing the spots in a client that are ready to face truth, to reframe a pattern or validate an inner knowing.
I love to help people know themselves and love themselves. This… one by one can change the world.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
According to my human design chart, I’m wired for strangers. I didn’t understand this until 8 years ago, and have built several businesses through old-fashioned referrals and friendships. It worked, but not exponentially. My fitness business has been the same size for 25 years… same with my music career.
Again, as I practice my design and I create posts on FB, IG and other social media, using my original art and personal stories, strangers are resonating, reaching out, and booking sessions.
There is an immediate knowing with these clients… our paths have crossed before, and we can get right to work.
I post when I’m inspired, in the moment, as myself.
And I teach a Monday night class at The Estuary in Nashville (and ZOOMING), that is a staple for connecting with the community.
There are seekers everywhere! We have to trust that they will see our Light!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Passion. Pure curiosity and passion.
To be good at anything logical, it takes 10,000 hours.
To shine in your field it takes an inner fire… one that is stoked by love and service.
Success looks different for each one of us.
Success for me is knowing mySelf… the good, the bad and the in between.
And alchemizing the shadows into wisdom for others.
Study, practice, share.
Learn, grow, teach.
Work, Play, Rest.
