We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jen Hill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
One of the first things this client told me was that she just wanted to have people over again and not be embarrassed. She wanted her kids to have friends spend the night, and family over for the upcoming holidays. But things (quite literally) had overrun their house. Tears and frustrations were shared and then we rolled up our sleeves and dived in. Being a professional organizer is more than finding the pretty containers to have in the pantry especially for this client. She wanted her life back. Over several sessions we chipped away at the main floor going through boxes and piles, sorting into keep or donate. While it wasn’t “perfect” by Instagram standards, she was so excited to tell me that her family was able to come over for Thanksgiving and they had a lovely time. As she put it “we have transformed our house into a livable home again.”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jen Hill, founder of Jen Hill Organizing. My journey into professional organizing began from my own personal experience with going from clutter to functional. I realized that an organized home isn’t just about aesthetic appeal, it’s about creating functional systems that allow people to live more peaceful, productive lives.
After seeing again and again how organization improved my own life, I was inspired to help others experience that same transformation. I found that many successful, capable women were struggling with the same challenges: not enough time, too much stuff, and the mental weight that comes with constant disorganization.
We offer organization services in many capacities: typical declutter and organizing, new move unpack, digital and physical files, estate downsizing, business processes and procedures, and so much more! We know that organizing isn’t a one size fits all, and we take into account our client’s personalities and lifestyle desires.
My clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed by spaces that no longer serve them.
They’re successful in other areas of their lives but find that:
They waste precious time searching for items they know they have somewhere
They feel embarrassed about inviting people into their homes
They’re mentally drained by the constant visual chaos
They’ve lost the ability to use spaces for their intended purposes, like crafting, entertaining, or simply relaxing
I’m proud of the educational aspect of our services. we don’t just organize for the clients; We teach them sustainable systems they can maintain and adapt as their needs change. I’ve had clients from 2 years ago tell me the systems still work today!
We believe organization should enhance your life, not constrain it. Our systems are designed to be flexible, intuitive, and sustainable for real people leading complex lives. Whether you’re managing a household, running a business, caring for aging parents, or all of the above, my goal is to create spaces that support your actual life, not an Instagram-perfect fantasy.
Working with us is a partnership. We are not here to force a minimalist aesthetic or judge your belongings. We want to help you create a home that feels like a sanctuary rather than another source of stress. Together, we transform your space into one that supports your goals and gives you back the time and energy to focus on what truly matters to you.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The short answer: strong online presence and networking. Let break down what that looks like. When I first started, it was just me. I built a website (later hired someone to do it better), set up my business profile on Google, created a Facebook and Instagram business account, and started sharing my information to varies groups and pages I was an active participant. I quickly started getting leads from people finding me on Google.
Once I had just a few online assets established I started networking. Networking can get a bad rap, but it doesn’t have to be scary, intimidating, or one-sided. I found groups to be a part of and made it my mission that if I didn’t have a client scheduled for that day, I was meeting with someone who could get me in front of potential clients. The first year or so of my business I was networking an average of 6 hours a week. The goal was to build relationships. Many of these people I still have relationships with today.
You could be the greatest at what you do, but if people don’t know your business exists they can’t hire you.
Then I would say the last piece to this, is that we complete jobs with excellence. We aren’t perfect, but we do our best. And the people on our team all have those same values. They believe in what Jen Hill Organizing stands for and don’t want to let anyone down.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One of the things I observed while I was working for other businesses instead of my own, was the importance of continuous learning. Even before I officially started my business I started reading books about finances, mindset, and organizing. Some books that stick out: Buy Back your Time by Dan Martell, Profit First by Mike Michalowicz, Atomic Habits by James Clear, You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero.
I also hired a business coach within a few months of starting. I figured if professional athletes had coaches I should too. I’m pretty sure there will never be a time in my career that I won’t have a business coach. The coaches that have inspired and mentor me for general business topics are Robin with EA Lewis and Associates, Jason with Madasz High Performance Coaching. I also found some coaches that specialize in professional organizing, Melissa with Inspired Organizer and Holly with Rockstar Organizers.
Keep learning and don’t go at it alone!
