e’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful JEN GREENER. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JEN below.
JEN , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
Invest in a BUSINESS MENTOR/COACH or join a community of small business owners for support! & don’t be afraid ask for help. I didn’t do this in the beginning & knowing know, it would have saved me so much time & money trying to figure it out on my own.
JEN , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Howdy from Austin, TX! My name is Jen Greener, Founder of Shop Moda B. I started Moda B (online clothing shop) back in 2017 as a side hustle while I was working a 9-5 that I hated. I’ve always loved fashion & wanted a creative outlet where I could express myself & share my badass finds with other people. About a year later, Shop Moda B took off & I was able to quit my office job to pursue it full time… best day ever!
In the past I found it very difficult to find clothes that made me feel “me”. I knew I wasn’t alone in this & I think this is what draws people to my shop. Everything is uniquely curated & styled in a way that makes you think outside of the box, and more importantly, makes you feel like a confident queen. I get messages all the time from customers saying how amazing they feel when they rock their Shop Moda B & how they always get compliments. And honestly, that is the best part of my job!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That following count matters. In the beginning, I associated “success” with how many followers I had. So I focused a lot of time trying to get as many new followers as possible, as quickly as possible.
I’ve realized now the important thing is CONNECTION with your followers, Quality over quantity, if you will. Being able to genuinely connect & build trust with my customers is the ultimate goal. You could have 500k+ but if you don’t have loyalty, what’s the point?
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
2020. It sucked. As a business owner, it was even scarier. Trying to operate during a pandemic was something I wasn’t prepared for & I would be lying if I said I didn’t think it may be the end of what I had worked so hard to build. But, I showed up. Consistently. Even if that looked different than usual. FFWD – 2020 ended up being the most successful year up to that point! The love & support that I received during such a crazy time was everything I needed to keep going. I am still blown away.
