We recently connected with Jen Coker and have shared our conversation below.
Jen , appreciate you joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I believe that one of my best qualities of being a trainer & business owner is creating relationships with my clients. I think it’s so important to make them feel appreciated, valued, and cared for. I make them feel appreciated by showing interest in not only their health & fitness journey but also their personal lives. I really get to know them and make them feel comfortable talking to me and getting to know me. I also do little signs of appreciation such as oil infused cold towels, birthday, holiday and thank you cards, favorite snacks, etc. My intent with all of this is to help them feel good and valued as not only my client but as a friend. I hope they feel the love and passion I pour into them.
Jen , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been a helper. I wanted to be a teacher at a young age and I know a big reason for that is because my Mom was one and I looked up to her so much.
I was a physical education teacher and coach for many years before moving to Texas. I enjoyed it but with the move and adjustments and then having children, it was difficult to continue in this profession. I knew I still wanted to help people and because health & fitness was such a big part of my life I decided to get certified as a personal trainer.
I began personal training as well as coaching some outdoor group fitness classes and truly fell in love with it!
Over the years I’ve added to my resume and experiences and then finally decided I wanted to build my own business and brand! So much of my business was built organically and that’s something I’m very proud of. I work hard and put a lot of time and effort into my craft.
I currently do personal and small group training as well as nutrition coaching. I also continue to do some group fitness classes. I enjoy coaching many people because they give me energy, purpose, motivation and are the reason I wake up early every single day to do what I do!
My goal is to continue building my personal brand and be able to provide next level services and experiences to all of my clients!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes! The Covid pandemic threw a huge wrench into a business that required face to face training/interaction!
I definitely had to pivot. Everything switched to virtual training. Fortunately this was an option and luckily it didn’t have to last for too long!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is all about consistency!!! My platform is nowhere where I’d like it to be yet, but I have a small solid base and I contribute that to being very consistent, vulnerable, raw, real, authentic, and personable.
