A Journey of Self-Discovery: From Nurse Practitioner to Aesthetic Entrepreneur
As I stand amidst the serene ambiance of my clinic, surrounded by the gentle hum of medical equipment and the subtle scent of essential oils, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that brought me here. My name is Jen, and I am a nurse practitioner turned entrepreneur in the realm of aesthetics and wellness.
For years, I dedicated myself to the field of obstetrics and gynecology, navigating the delicate intricacies of women’s health with care and compassion. It was a fulfilling path, one that allowed me to witness the miracle of life and support women through their most intimate moments. During this time, I was building my own family, getting married, and bringing 3 beautiful children into the world. During one of most trying periods in my medical career and for our family (Covid-19 pandemic), I found myself lost, not feeling the same fulfillment that I did prior from my career. A whisper of curiosity urged me to explore new avenues beyond the confines of traditional medicine.
The decision to transition from obstetrics and gynecology to aesthetics and wellness was not one made lightly. It required courage, a willingness to step outside my comfort zone, and a leap of faith into the unknown. But it was a risk I knew I had to take—a risk that I was hoping would give my career its spark back, and my family more balance and peace.
Embracing this new chapter of my life meant immersing myself in a world of beauty and rejuvenation, where the pursuit of aesthetic enhancement intersected with the principles of holistic well-being. I embarked on a journey of discovery, eagerly absorbing knowledge about the latest advancements in aesthetic medicine and wellness practices.
From mastering the art of injectables to harnessing the power of cutting-edge laser technology, I dedicated myself to honing my skills and expertise. But beyond the technical aspects of my craft, I discovered something profound—a passion for empowering women to embrace their beauty and prioritize their self-care.
Opening my own practice was a labor of love—one that tested my resilience and determination every step of the way. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, times when the road ahead seemed daunting and insurmountable. But with unwavering resolve, I pressed forward, fueled by a vision of creating a sanctuary where women could feel pampered, rejuvenated, and empowered to seek the care they need. Adding to the aesthetic services, my practice, NoBe Aesthetics & Wellness, also offers wellness services, such as womens health, sexual/intimate health, perimenopausal/menopausal care.
Today, as I witness the smiles of satisfaction on the faces of my clients and hear their stories of newfound confidence and self-love, I am reminded of the profound impact that following my heart has had on my life. My journey from ob/gyn nurse practitioner to aesthetic & wellness practitioner and entrepreneur has been one of self-discovery, growth, and fulfillment—a testament to the transformative power of embracing change and stepping into the unknown.
As I look to the future, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the possibilities that lie ahead. My path may have taken unexpected turns, but each twist and turn has led me closer to my true calling—to empower women to look and feel their best, inside and out. My name is Jen Clayton CRNP, and I am the founder of NoBe Aesthetics & Wellness. My journey into the aesthetics and wellness industry began as a nurse practitioner specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. While I found great fulfillment in that field, I felt a calling to explore new horizons and discover ways to empower women in a different capacity.
Driven by my passion for beauty, wellness, and holistic care, I took a leap of faith and transitioned into the realm of aesthetics and wellness, focusing on care for women throughout their life, and empowering them to seek care they desire. Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In my field of aesthetics and wellness, beyond training and knowledge, I firmly believe that personalized care, a strong bedside manner, and patience are invaluable qualities for success.
Personalized care goes beyond simply administering treatments—it’s about truly understanding each client’s unique goals, concerns, and preferences. By taking the time to listen and empathize, we can tailor treatment plans that address their individual needs, ultimately leading to more satisfying results and a higher level of client satisfaction.
Bedside manner is equally important in fostering trust and building rapport with clients. Whether they’re seeking injectable treatments or discussing their skincare concerns, clients appreciate a provider who is warm, compassionate, and attentive. A positive bedside manner not only puts clients at ease but also enhances their overall experience and fosters a sense of trust and confidence in our expertise.
Patience is another essential quality in our field. Achieving desired results often requires time and commitment, and it’s important to manage clients’ expectations accordingly. How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start?
When I made the decision to transition from traditional medicine to aesthetics and wellness, I knew that starting my own practice would require a significant investment of both time and resources. Rather than rushing into things or seeking external funding, I chose to approach the process methodically, starting slow and making calculated decisions every step of the way.
I began by carefully assessing my financial situation and identifying areas where I could allocate my personal funds towards building my practice.
Instead of splurging on unnecessary luxuries or expensive equipment right away, I focused on making smart purchases that would provide the greatest return on investment. This meant prioritizing essential equipment and supplies while being mindful of my budget and avoiding unnecessary debt.
Patience was key during this initial phase of building my business. Rather than trying to grow too fast or expand beyond my means, I took the time to establish a solid foundation and build a loyal client base. This allowed me to reinvest profits back into the business, gradually expanding my offerings and growing my practice organically.
As my business began to gain momentum and generate revenue, I continued to reinvest profits back into the business, strategically expanding my services and investing in areas that would further enhance the client experience and drive growth.
By taking a slow and steady approach to funding my business, I was able to build a strong and sustainable foundation that has allowed NoBe Aesthetics & Wellness to thrive. Today, I am proud of the journey we’ve taken and the success we’ve achieved, knowing that it was built on patience, diligence, and smart decision-making every step of the way.
