Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jemal Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jemal , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Once I saw LL Cool J on Krush Groove do his cameo, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Before then it was a hobby and I was a fan of rap and hip hop but after seeing that particular scene in that movie I had an epiphany and saw myself doing this as a job. From there I got with the right people to set me up on my path with, music, recordings and shows. The rest is history!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Supreem Da Rezarekta’ I bring dead things to life. Whether I’m with my band or solo, I put on one of the most entertaining, energetic performances in the hip hop and entertainment game. Black, white, young or old I capture them all with my music which is loved by all people no matter their background. I have songs that touch your heart and soul and you can sing them forever. Since the beginning of writing rhymes I had a knack for writing catchy hooks that people loved and my lyrical skills were always on point. That translated into great recordings which caught people’s ears and that got me booked on many shows and tours.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Knowing that people that see my show or heard my music spread the word to others. I love the fact that 5 or 5,000 people get the same energetic performance so that gets people to talking. It’s a reward to know that my years in music were really organic and a word of mouth thing. One gig leads to two more, I’ve been on a steady grind and climb. From day one all the way to writing my book, Where I’m From: Past Iz History, telling my story and journey,

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a long time MC rather in a group or solo, I was strictly Hip Hop, two turntables and a microphone. As time went on, I got bored and was asked to be on television as a host on a popular Philadelphia tv show, Urban Xpressions. That opened me up to the world of television and media. Then I got asked to join a band and that opened up my musical horizon. Between the two, tv and bands, I’ve been places and seen things that most of my peers have never experienced.
