We were lucky to catch up with Jeffrey Vaughan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeffrey , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
How and Why I Created Big Energy Media
The journey of creating Big Energy Media stemmed from my passion for storytelling and my desire to empower small business owners and creatives. I realized that many of them had incredible stories to tell but lacked the tools to share them effectively in the digital landscape. This inspired me to build a digital marketing agency that focuses on helping these entrepreneurs articulate their narratives and connect with their audiences.
At Big Energy Media, we understand that every brand has a unique story. Our approach centers around crafting custom campaigns tailored to the behavior and preferences of their target audience. We dive deep into understanding their customers—what captivates them, what resonates with them, and how they consume content. This data-driven approach allows us to create campaigns that not only attract attention but also foster genuine engagement.
One key aspect of our philosophy is recognizing that many business owners need more than just advice; they require a comprehensive marketing funnel that guides them through the process. While it’s important to provide strategic insights, we believe in walking alongside our clients every step of the way. We offer hands-on support, from developing the initial concept to executing and refining their marketing strategies.
By focusing on a collaborative process, we empower our clients to feel confident in their marketing efforts. Our goal is to not only tell them what to do but to partner with them in crafting a narrative that captivates their audience and drives results. At Big Energy Media, we’re dedicated to transforming visions into impactful digital experiences that resonate and engage.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Why I Got Into the Digital Marketing Industry
My journey into the world of digital marketing was born out of personal experience and a desire to help others. I started as a lost creative, struggling to find my voice in a crowded landscape. Initially, I thought I would become an awesome songwriter, pouring my heart into my music. But I quickly realized that having a great product wasn’t enough; I needed to reach my audience effectively. This realization sparked my interest in marketing and how it could bridge the gap between creators and their fans.
As a self-taught videographer, I discovered the incredible power of social media during the pandemic. With the world on pause, I dove into online platforms and saw firsthand how they connected people and skills across the globe. I realized that digital marketing wasn’t just about promoting products; it was about building relationships and sharing stories that resonate.
I wanted to channel my experiences into something meaningful, helping other creatives and business owners who faced similar struggles. I understand the challenges of feeling unheard and unseen, and I’m passionate about using my skills to empower others to tell their stories and connect with their audiences.
Digital marketing became a way for me to combine my creative passions with a purpose—helping others find their voices and reach their potential. Now, I’m committed to guiding others through the complexities of marketing, ensuring they don’t have to navigate it alone. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and create impactful connections that elevate their work.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Maintaining strong relationships with my clients is a top priority for me as a digital marketer. I believe that effective communication is key to fostering trust and ensuring their success. Here are some ways I stay connected:
1. Regular Check-Ins
I schedule regular check-ins with clients, whether through phone calls, video meetings, or in-person visits. These conversations provide an opportunity to discuss progress, address any concerns, and celebrate successes. I find that personal touch makes a significant difference in building rapport.
2. Email Updates
I send out personalized email updates that highlight campaign performance, insights, and upcoming strategies. These emails keep clients informed and engaged, showing them the value of our collaboration. I also include tips and resources that can help them further their goals.
3. Social Media Engagement
I actively engage with clients on social media platforms. By liking, commenting, and sharing their content, I show that I’m invested in their brand and success. This also keeps the lines of communication open and encourages informal interactions.
4. Feedback Loops
I prioritize gathering feedback regularly to understand how clients feel about our work together. This could be through surveys, direct conversations, or follow-up emails after project milestones. Listening to their input helps me tailor my approach and improve our partnership.
5. Educational Content
I share relevant articles, webinars, and resources that align with their interests and industry trends. This not only adds value to our relationship but also positions me as a trusted advisor who is invested in their ongoing growth.
6. Celebrating Milestones
I make it a point to celebrate milestones—big or small. Whether it’s a successful campaign launch or hitting a specific goal, acknowledging these achievements fosters a positive connection and encourages continued collaboration.
By implementing these strategies, I ensure that my clients feel valued and supported throughout our partnership. This proactive approach to communication helps me build lasting relationships and contributes to their long-term success.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Starting my digital marketing agency required a significant investment of time, effort, and resources. To fund my business, I took on as many gigs as I could handle, working longer hours to maximize my income. This meant juggling multiple freelance projects while managing my time effectively to deliver quality work for each client.
In addition to freelance work, I drove for Uber during my downtime. This flexible side gig allowed me to earn extra income while still having the freedom to focus on my marketing projects. The experience not only helped me financially but also exposed me to a diverse range of people and ideas, enriching my understanding of different markets.
I also set a personal goal to tell at least 20 people each week about what I do. Whether it was friends, family, or new connections I met through my various gigs, I made it a point to share my story and the services I offer. This proactive approach helped me generate leads and build a network of potential clients.
By combining these strategies—taking on gigs, driving for Uber, and actively promoting my business—I was able to fund my agency and lay a strong foundation for future growth. This hustle and determination not only provided the necessary resources but also taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and the importance of building relationships in the business world.
