We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeffrey Tarver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jeffrey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
Being of service is one of the most rewarding things that one can engage in. Since I was in high school, I always knew that I wanted to make an impact on the world and I wanted to do that through working with youth on a global scale. To this date, I’ve been able to mentor youth through sports in 5 different countries, Brazil, Panama, Nigeria, Ghana, and of course, the United States.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jeffrey M. Tarver and I am the Co-Founder and CEO of LIFE League Consulting Group, LLC, or for short, LIFE League. Essentially, we provide consulting services by way of sports, mentoring, and education. Youth sports is a billion dollar, global industry so we use what young people love and are engaged in, in order to provide mentorship, educational services. and link them to careers. Our clients include local governments, private corporations, professional athletes, local school boards, and even other non-profit organizations.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Our consulting company actually started from our nonprofit organization, LIFE League Inc. We were hosting sports and stem camps in the Middle Georgia area and were always getting approached in order to run programs and camps for other organizations. When asked my fee, I would always say just make a donation to my nonprofit organization. Over time, I figured I could actually make a living by creating a consulting company to actually earn revenue on something that I love to do.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Our target market is youth athletes, ages 10-21. What types of content do these athletes love to consume? Themselves and other athletes playing sports! Most of our content consists of highlights and clips from our sports camps. Because we are able to generate thousands of views over several social media platforms, we are able to include our messages and advertising within the content.
Our advice to anyone looking to build a social media presence is to learn their target market and stay consistent with posting the content that they want to see.
