We recently connected with Jeffrey Cabral and have shared our conversation below.
Jeffrey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
My path to establishing my own mental health private practice began with a pivotal decision to leave my corporate job. After more than a decade in the mental health field, I felt a deep desire to empower myself and become my own boss. It was a decision rooted in confidence in my counseling skills and a passion for making a direct impact on clients’ lives.
The idea to launch my practice crystallized in the wake of the Covid pandemic, which accelerated the adoption of Telehealth services. Supported by my partner’s unwavering encouragement, I embarked on the journey to obtain my licensure in mental health counseling for independent practice. With this crucial milestone achieved, I set my sights on the administrative tasks necessary to formalize my business.
I vividly remember the day I navigated the downtown courthouse to secure my DBA license and Tax ID number—foundational steps that marked the official beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. Energized by these initial victories, I turned to establishing my online presence. My talented partner played a pivotal role, conducting a professional photoshoot and crafting compelling promotional videos that captured the essence of my practice and the services offered. His expertise extended to designing a visually striking website that would serve as the digital face of my new venture.
Equipped with a robust online presence, the next crucial move was to ensure visibility within the mental health community. I registered my practice on various online directories and set up social media accounts, laying the groundwork for potential clients to discover and engage with my services.
Finally, after months of meticulous planning and preparation, July 20th, 2022 arrived—the official launch date of my business. It was a moment filled with anticipation and excitement as I introduced my practice to the public, ready to provide compassionate counseling and support to those in need.

Jeffrey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those new to Mind to Heart Counseling, I’m the founder, dedicated to creating a haven especially for the LGBTQ community. At our practice, we offer a sanctuary where individuals find acceptance, support, and healing, free from judgment or discrimination. LGBTQ issues are not just a professional focus for me; they are my personal passion and the driving force behind everything we do.
In today’s challenging social climate, marginalized communities face increasing scrutiny and adversity. LGBTQ individuals often encounter systemic discrimination and social stigma, impacting their mental health and well-being. As a member of the LGBTQ community myself, I intimately understand these challenges. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to ensure that Mind to Heart Counseling isn’t just a therapy space but a refuge—a place of hope and understanding in a world that often falls short.
From the moment clients connect with us online, they recognize Mind to Heart Counseling as a safe space. Our branding signals a counselor who welcomes and celebrates their identity, respecting their journey and offering unwavering support.
Each client who walks through our virtual doors brings a unique story, a journey marked by resilience and courage. I’m immensely proud of each one—for their bravery, vulnerability, and commitment to self-discovery and healing. It’s an honor to stand beside them, providing guidance, support, and advocacy as they navigate life’s challenges.
At Mind to Heart Counseling, our commitment to being a safe space for the LGBTQ community isn’t just a slogan—it’s a core value that shapes every aspect of our practice. It’s evident in the inclusive language we use, the affirming environment we cultivate, and the genuine empathy and understanding we bring to every session. This commitment is renewed daily, knowing our work can transform lives and empower individuals to live authentically.
Beyond my dedication to the LGBTQ community, I’m deeply passionate about serving the Latinx/Hispanic community and other underrepresented populations. I strive to offer culturally competent care that respects and honors diverse backgrounds and experiences.
If you’re seeking a counselor who understands and embraces your identity and journey, I invite you to explore Mind to Heart Counseling. Together, we can address your concerns, celebrate your strengths, and chart a path toward a brighter, more fulfilling future.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The most rewarding source of new clients has been creating a presence on the online mental health directories such as Psychology Today and also word of mouth. These platforms have created validity for Mind to Heart Counseling as an established business and has allowed for the public to find out about our services.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I prioritize keeping contact with my clients via various platforms. Each of my clients has my business cell phone number and each client is aware that I am accessible to them even outside of sessions. I encourage clients to reach out to me via phone call or text if they need my assistance and support. Clients are also able to contact my business email address and they can also submit inquiries via the Mind to Heart Counseling website.
